FBI: Dearborn Heights ISIS supporter planned to attack Detroit church

FBI: Dearborn Heights ISIS supporter planned to attack Detroit church

In conversation's between Abu-Rayyan and the undercover agent, Abu-Rayyan described his desire to commit a martyrdom operation.

The complaint filed in federal court doesn’t specify which Detroit church he was allegedly planning to attack, only that it was close and could seat 6,000 members.

The complaint quotes Abu-Rayyan saying:

“It's easy, and a lot of people go there. Plus people are not allowed to carry guns in church. Plus it would make the news. Everybody would've heard. Honestly I regret not doing it. If I can't do jihad in the Middle East, I would do my jihad over here."

He had also told the undercover agent that a church would be an easy target because people are not allowed to carry guns there and that it would make the news.

(bolding mine)

I think we can lay to rest, the debate of whether or not those with bad intentions evaluate potential targets using "gun free" as one of their criteria.

Do you live in a state that allows citizens the right of concealed carry? (shall-issue licensing)

If so, when you're anywhere in public do you hope a citizen or two are carrying a concealed firearm in the current world we're living in?

Given the religious tensions that have been in the news, and otherwise international cultural tensions I think it's an idea that should be considered.

FWIW, I worked on a farm as a kid. Doors were never locked. Now meth makers steal ammonia and people walk in and steal stuff. Things that people say only happened in the cities happen rural now. There's a lot of ground for police to travel so response times are expected to be long.

My sister and I represent the first generation of "urbanites" from both my Dad & Mom's sides of the families. Dad........tiny farm town, and immigrants before, and Mom --- very small German town and immigrants prior. (She was born here, grew up in Germany during the war.)

By virtue of the fact that I got a fairly good taste of the very tough farm life Dad grew up in, I never developed the contempt that so many of my fellow lefties hold for rural Americans........nor the loathing of guns.

But I noticed that you didn't respond to my last sentence. Not trying to be argumentative.......just trying to nail down your belief system vis-a-vis concealed carry. Lots of folks on the left draw a (largely) non-existent contrast between law enforcement carry and citizen carry.

I take no exception to it and wouldn't mind providing the non law enforcement person is well grounded and has experience and education in what they're doing. In the winter we carry emergency gear in our cars, just another piece of gear. Someone pointed out that the acceptance or rejection of how we view firearms is a cultural thing.

She'd probably call folks like us who flee from her guns "thieves", just like you do.

It's easy to demonize folks who flee for their lives.

But such labels as "thief" and "shoplifter" would no doubt make her feel better about shooting at the folks who flee for their lives.

And when ammosexuals use terms like that, the purpose is intimidation.

It's an attempt by the NRA and their minions to make unarmed civilians afraid to run for our lives, out of fear of being labeled "thieves" and potentially being shot for our supposed crimes.

The intent is to make us feel like targets should we choose to run for our lives.

We're damned if we do, and damned if we don't.

Woman Who Shot At Fleeing Home Depot Shoplifters Gets Probation, Gun Rights Revoked

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ/AP) – A 46-year-old customer who shot at shoplifters fleeing a Home Depot in metro Detroit has been sentenced to probation.

Tatiana Duva-Rodriguez, of Clarkston, was sentenced Wednesday in Rochester Hills District Court to 18 months probation after pleading no-contest to reckless discharge of a gun. During that time, she is prohibited from buying, possessing or carrying a firearm. The judge also revoked Duva-Rodriguez’s license to carry a concealed weapon. She won’t eligible to apply again until 2023.

Duva-Rodriguez opened fire in the parking lot of the Auburn Hills Home Depot, flattening a tire on the thieves’ SUV in October.

According to police, Duva-Rodriguez was watching as 52-year-old Lloyd Wenn exited the store with a cart full of merchandise. Wenn was being followed by a store employee, who was trying to stop him because the items were not paid for. Wenn got into the getaway vehicle, driven by 46-year-old Anthony Harris, and began to flee when Duva-Rodriguez took action and fired at least three times.

Duva-Rodriguez was licensed to carry a concealed weapon, but she wasn’t being threatened by the shoplifters. Prosecutor Jessica Cooper called the shooting “disturbing.”

And now she'll face the consequences of her idiocy.
But again, why is it proper to flee an establishment without paying your bill when there's no threat of violence?

Open carrying? Seems like you and another are so paranoid that you would commit theft. As a calculus professor you should just run the numbers and the percentage of restaurant guests killed by open carry persons. If you do not then, yes in my opinion, you are paranoid and that is not an attack. It is just the facts from the numbers.

Open carrying?

Folks around here are calling us thieves, knowing full well that there are other ammosexuals out there who feel entitled to shoot thieves.

I can't see any reason for such obsessive and repeated labeling of innocent people who run for their lives as "thieves", except for the purposes of demonization and putting targets on our backs, and to make us feel afraid to run away and flee for our lives.

Depends on the weapon. M1's use clips and a Roger SR40C uses a magazine. I fail to see why you keep posting that but do as you want.

Why would you be running for your life? So far you have not answered my question of how many have been killed in the USA by a person practicing open carry where legal to do so. Easiest way to prevent any situation is not be so paranoid and not commit theft and pay your bill, so that server can get a paycheck for services provided just like you, right? Should that server and restaurant owner also deserve to be paid like you for services rendered?

Thanks for playing.

As was pointed out to you by GGJohn, you completely, and probably willingly, missed the point.

As an aside, I went to Waffle House this morning for breakfast. I had my usual, 2 eggs over medium, sausage, grits, toast, small tomato juice and coffee. Two open carriers were there when I walked in. After I finished my meal, I paid the bill, and left my usual 50% tip. I never once felt threatened.

I'm working now and when I go out to eat I always try and talk to the server, male or female, to find out what their situation is.

If they're someone who lost a job and is working to provide for their family, and maybe work two jobs to do it, my tip goes up in proportion.

In any event, I always try and tip at least 30%.

or whatever you identify as, you'll not draw me in. You have a penchant for assuming threats where none exist, you have a penchant for not answering questions directly asked of you, and now you demand what you, personally, won't deliver.

I won't be held to a different standard.

Good Day to you.
