Donald Trump: ‘I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools’

Donald Trump: ‘I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools’

By Jenna Johnson January 8 at 12:36 AM

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Donald Trump said Thursday that he wants to eliminate gun-free zones at schools.

"I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools, and — you have to — and on military bases," Trump said, to scattered cheers during a campaign rally on Thursday night. "My first day, it gets signed, okay? My first day. There's no more gun-free zones."

Trump has repeatedly said that gun-free zones are a magnet for mentally ill shooters and that the recent mass shootings in Paris and California could have been prevented if more citizens were armed to protect themselves and others. For months, Trump has specifically called for the elimination of gun-free zones at military installments, but his call to do the same at schools appears to be a new stance.

The proposal raises a number of questions, such as: Would this apply to all public schools, from elementary to college? How would schools deal with the likely logistical and safety concerns created by having guns on grounds?

Trump's campaign manager and press secretary did not respond to requests for clarification.

Next thing, NRA Trumpers will be advocating the firing of Faculty who refuse to teach in armed classrooms.

You got mad when we called for a department to be sanctioned for not following the law. You complianed that you should get your public paycheck even if you refused to do your job.

link: Trump has repeatedly said that gun-free zones are a magnet for mentally ill shooters and that the recent mass shootings in Paris and California could have been prevented if more citizens were armed .. Trump said he wants to eliminate gun-free zones at schools... "My first day, it gets signed, okay? There's no more gun-free zones."

Don't understand this reasoning. I think maybe 90% of yearly gun homicides are done where guns are allowed, anyone disagree? maybe even higher like 95%. Like homes, towns, cities, rural areas, all where guns are allowed, with varying state restrictions & proscriptions.
I think 95% or more of suicides done by gun are committed in gun zones, like homes, cities, towns, rural areas, most all where guns are allowed, again with varying restrictions.
Relatively very few gun deaths occur in 'gun free zones' I think, so much I think it's working as best as it realistically could. It's not like eliminating gun free zones would prevent all gun deaths therein overall - perhaps increase the number, gunshot wounds & mishaps as well.

I think next Monday jan 18th, British parliament will discuss whether to ban Donald trump from Britain.

British MPs will debate possibly shutting Trump out of the U.K., it was confirmed, after a petition on the parliament.uk website gathered over 560,000 signatures. Parliament is required to .. which gathers over 100,000 signatures.
Trump took a jab at what he called Britain’s “Muslim problem.” “We have places in London and other places that are so radicalized that the police are afraid for their own lives,” he told MSNBC. “We have to be very smart and very vigilant.”
In its call to ban Trump from Britain’s shores, the petition says: “The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. The same principles should apply to everyone who wishes to enter the UK.”
The parliamentary debate, which will take place on January 18, will not necessarily lead to any change in U.K. policy towards Trump. “By scheduling a debate on these petitions, the committee is not expressing a view on whether or not the government should exclude Donald Trump from the U.K.,”... “As with any decision to schedule a petition for debate, it simply means that the committee has decided that the subject should be debated.”

And blimey, a raspberry to PM Cameron: Both Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor George Osborne have said in the past that they do not want to keep Trump out of the UK, though in December the Prime Minister’s office did condemn his proposed ban on Muslims.. http://www.newsweek.com/british-parliament-debate-ban-trump-412113

in every school and prevent this kind of bullshit. As POTUS, he can't. He can say that he would sign a bill that does that, or make an executive order about federal buildings or reservations ONLY if those bans aren't there by statute.
If he were running for congress he could say "I will introduce a bill".
Put that with his equating marching in a nice uniform at a prep school is the same as military service. He is making life look more like a Simpsons episode.

I have to correct one thing

He can say that he would sign a bill that does that, or make an executive order about federal buildings or reservations ONLY if those bans aren't there by statute.
If he were running for congress he could say "I will introduce a bill".

There was a federal law about local schools until SCOTUS struck it down for violating the 10A. Most if not all of the states wrote their own laws, often allowing for law enforcement and school rifle club exceptions. Since they are state laws or local school board decisions, nothing he or any other POTUS can do about it.
