CSGV is descending into a strange emotion filled world, and it is fascinating to watch....

"The Mosin-Nagant rifle he carries is basically a fetish rifle for hardcore insurrectionists"

They could have used the term "powerful"here and been correct, NO, they label a potentially 120 year old, 5 shot bolt action rifle a "fetish" item. With all the fear mongering they do over semi-automatic rifles that have ergonomic features, and normal capacity magazines. They flip their lid of a old bolt action gun, that can only hold 5 rounds, that takes a lot of skill and practice to reload those five rounds with ANY speed whatsoever, and is very "uncomfortable" for most folks to shoot.

Out of all the rifles they find "offensive" and demand them to be banned immediately, this is about as pedestrian a firearm as they come.

I sense much desperation with them, they are getting *much* more irrational here as of late for some reason. Bloomberg's check must be late or something.

But the only reason the basic 1891 Mosin could be considered a"fetish rifle" is because until recently you could buy one for around a hundred bucks and the ammunition was dirt cheap if you didn't mind steel, non reloadable cases and corrosive Berdan primers.

They're kinda neat old guns, a lot clumsier and more awkward to load than some of the Mausers on the market but built to take abuse.

Obviously whoever wrote the article wasn't very well informed about Mosins.

Virtually every country that received military aid from the Soviet Union, China, and Eastern Europe during the Cold War used Mosin–Nagants at various times. Middle Eastern countries within the sphere of Soviet influence — Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestinian fighters — have received them in addition to other more modern arms. Mosin–Nagants have also seen action in the hands of both Soviet[13] and Mujahadeen forces in Afghanistan during the Soviet Union's occupation of the country during the 1970s and the 1980s. Their use in Afghanistan continued on well into the 1990s and the early 21st century by Northern Alliance forces. Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Mosin–Nagants are still commonly found on modern battlefields around the world. They were used by insurgent forces in the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan. Mosin–Nagant rifles have even been seen in the present conflict of the Syrian Civil War, in the hands of rebels.[14] Separatists have also used the rifles alongside more modern Russian firearms in the Second war in Chechnya.[citation needed] In addition, scoped Mosins continue to serve as issue sniper rifles with the Afghan Army, the Iraqi Army, the Finnish Army, and with a micrometer sight as a sniper training and precision target rifle with the Finns.[citation needed] Mosin–Nagants have been used by both pro-Russian separatists and pro-Ukrainian forces in the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.

and inexpensive. Basically, for the same reason the SKS became a popular hunting rifle in the US and Canada.
That makes them easier to find that, say, a Lee Enfield.

Your reference

It is one of the most mass-produced military bolt-action rifles in history with over 37 million units produced since its conception in 1891

At the beginning of the war, the Mosin–Nagant 91/30 was the standard issue weapon of Soviet troops and millions of the rifles were produced and used in World War II by the largest mobilized army in history.

Virtually every country that received military aid from the Soviet Union, China, and Eastern Europe during the Cold War used Mosin–Nagants at various times.

It's better for long-distance shots.

But I'd guess the Mosin-Nagant is nowhere near as prevalent as the AK47 family of rifles, or even the SKS.
