Homeowner shoots suspects during home invasion

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Hartford police said a home owner shot two suspects who attempted to break into his Tredeau Street home late Saturday night.

Police said they received calls just before 11 p.m. Saturday reporting a home invasion in progress at 109 Tredeau St. and that shots had been fired.

When officers arrived they discovered the homeowner was approached by two suspects who pointed a gun at him.

The homeowner, who is a legal pistol permit holder, was armed at the time of the incident and used his firearm to shoot the suspects several times.

This was on the morning news today. The two suspects had zips ties, which is a bit scary. That signals intent to bind the occupants of the home.

Loud and clearly by the silence of its proponents to this comment.

I can confidently say that had a "gun culture" poster said "the home owner should have killed both of them" there would be many refutations of such a statement.

that scourge on college campuses everywhere what turns the erotic, over-wrought myth of the Succubus upon its head. In this modern-day nocturnal visit, the Fart Fairy steals himself into the bedroom of the unsuspecting victim (whose mind already careens under the gauzy haze of drink), and lets fly a pumble at close range, tee-hee-hees as the horrified recipient sputters into a more terrible full consciousness, then escapes, closing the door to more concentrate the leavings.

Gunners are just wanting to shoot people, didn't he have a can or beans of something? There was no need to be rude to society...

If his firearms had been locked up at the armory like they were supposed to be this would never have happened.

Where a few years ago two men broke into someone's home, bound the entire family and then murdered the family, prompting Connecticut to reconsider its death penalty ban? Sometimes having a firearm for home protection doesn't help, but sometimes, in an instance like this, it does.

I too am curious to know what you think the homeowner did wrong, other than shoot a felon who was breaking into his home.

Let's see.....two suspects come all the way from Lawrence Mass and just happen to pick this place to rob ???? Must be some connection there !

Agree w the first comment. This isnt a target community for a home invasion. Theres a connection and this guy knew they were coming.

The term “home invasion” itself creates confusion between the general public and police, which can have differing opinions on what it means.

A home invasion typically is described deals with a group of armed individuals between three to ten who target a home where they know that high value items such as drugs or cash are being stored, Rodriguez said.

“This particular crime has a nexus to certain criminal activity; If you were to have one or two people steal one or two thousand pounds of marijuana it would take you 20 to 45 minutes to load all of those bundles,” Rodriguez said. “On the other hand, if you have a larger group, you are able to load them faster.”

Another reason for the larger groups deals with the possibility of the individuals at the home fighting back to protect their loads, Rodriguez said.

Sounds like the burglars had prior knowledge of something of value in the house, to drive two hours to get there. Drug-related? The stories mention the homeowner has a business but not what kind.

I would note that even in anti-gun Connecticut, the homeowner had a legal gun permit (non-felon), his wife and child were in the hose, there is video surveillance, and he was not arrested or detained.

If there was any evidence of a criminal enterprise in the home or if the homeowners gun was not legal, at the very least, the homeowners would have been detained for questioning.

It might very well be a targeted crime, but the reasons may be personal or due to knowledge of legal valuables, rather than related to drugs or crime in any way.
