Opinion: Feel Disrespected? Pull a Gun | Carol Costello, CNN.com | Photo-essay

http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/29/opinions/costello-guns-kill/?iid=ob_article_footer_expansion&iref=obnetwork

(CNN)Feel disrespected? Pull a gun. Open fire. That'll teach 'em.

It's become the norm in the United States.

"We don't treat guns like they're instruments of death in this country." That comes from a man who knows. Lonnie Phillips lost his daughter, Jessica, to the monster who opened fire at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. James Holmes killed Jessica, 11 others, and injured 70 more in 2012.

Phillips blames the man who pulled the trigger that July day, but he, a gun owner himself, also blames a gun culture that's out-of-control.

"We like to consider ourselves responsible gun owners," he told me. "But it wasn't always like that with me. I've had guns. I was raised in Louisiana, Lake Charles. My father had a gun, he carried it around in a glove box. One time somebody cut him off. He jumped out of the car, grabbed his gun, ran up to the window. The guy looked at him, flipped out his badge, and said, 'Red, if you don't put that gun away, you're going to jail. Get back in your car.' That was it. How cavalier is that"?

That is an astute observation for a lot of gun violence; I think pertains moreso to underprivileged & underachieving & angry & mentally imbalanced people realizing life isn't & might never be what they envisioned.

Phil Collins' song 'Both Sides of the Story' actually has a germane verse in it. Good song all the way thru, best affects listen from the beginning, but the verse I refer to starts a few seconds before minute 4.00 (use slider). Unabashedly, often makes me tear up.

The norm? No points for hyperbole or for the endorsement thereof.

No points for originality to Collins either, since he lifted the storyline for that verse from the film Grand Canyon.

What else would you expect?

Hell, I've had posts hidden in this group merely for pointing out the fact that support for Zimmerman is support for murder, not support for self-defense.

Left the Zimmerman supporters here in this group cheering.

So, sorry...no sympathy for hides from actual personal insults here, when merely calling Zimmerman a murderer is considered sufficient grounds to be hidden.

What's wrong with that?

Is telling the truth now an offense here on DU?

Are we seriously not allowed to correct somebody when they claim that their support for Zimmerman's shooting of Martin is support for self-defense?

Many folks here on DU agree with me that it is murder.

This forum is just an exception to that general rule, that's all, because so many Zimmerman supporters hang out here, because they get more validation for their views here than they do elsewhere on DU.

All that was pointed out to you was that the evidence in Zman's trial didn't support a murder conviction, you then proceeded to accuse us of supporting murder, you even accused me of supporting murder because of this thread:

I do hope your reading has assisted you and your ilk in understanding guns are deadly weapons that must be highly regulated, as in every other country, and as clearly written into the constitution of this one.

No one hates the gun lover at DU, a few exceptions, but we all understand the power of propaganda and gunpowder.

The states of Texas and Florida track the behavior of concealed carry license holders, and the irrefutable stats tell the opposite story.

But keep the lies coming. The GOP loves Democratic gun hysteria.
