Guns and crime

In 2013, guns were used to murder 11,208 people and injure 84,258 during criminal activity. That total is 95,466 people shot.

Ignoring that the same guns are often used over and over in crime, let's pretend that a different gun was used for all 95,466 of those crimes. Then compare that number with the over 300,000,000 guns in private hands. That's about 0.03% of the guns in the US or 1 out of 3,100 is used in a crime.

Make no mistake; the triggers don't pull themselves even though I hear a lot...
...that guns kill people. Are the other 3,099 guns broken?

According to the Washington Post, "In D.C.’s homicide spike, a new trend: Some involve past violent offenders."

More than 10 percent of the District’s spiking number of homicides this year have involved previously known violent offenders who have recently been released from prison, D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said Thursday.

“Multiple of our offenders involved in homicide have previous homicide charges and are recently back in the community,” Lanier said at a news conference.

Of course, I find it hard to believe that this is a "new trend." And the chief of police has to drop a statement about "high capacity magazines" - whatever those actually are - "flooding" the streets.

Everybody knows that the evil intrinsic to the gun passes into the body of the gun owner through some form of hideous osmosis, and drives him to desire murder and rampage. Resistance is futile. The gun CANNOT be brought under control.

Guns are the reason I have a curved spine, and the bulged discs + sciatica that comes with it, dammit.

Wish I had received momma's warning earlier.
