Related: About this forumMan with gun successfully defends self at Orlando Wal-mart
This happened about 5 miles from my house...
Orlando police said two men were beating up on another man. The shopper told police he was about to fall to the ground when he took out his gun and pistol-whipped them.
The Walmart was evacuated for nearly two hours while police took photos.
The man with the gun will not be charged, police said, because he has a permit for the weapon and was defending himself.

Good guy won although he was roughed up some. Hopefully the cops will catch the attackers before they strike again.
ETA: I meant, as far as I know, the good guy won. At least what we know from the article, the gun owner acted responsibly and defended himself even though his attackers got away. He may be a total bastard the rest of the time but all we know is what we know.

(12,132 posts)the story is pretty skimpy on details.
Why was he attacked in the first place?
I wonder if he drew his weapon intending to shoot or just wanted to scare them off him.
Did the reporter notice if they had any Tim-Tams on the shelf? I love those things and my Walmart is always out of them.

At any rate, pending further investigation, this appears to be a story that ended well.

(54,770 posts)I know the thought is foreign to most here who strap on a gun or two before venturing out. Not to mention all the practice they do in preparation of shooting someone -- whether they are armed or not.

(10,136 posts)The more likely situation is that is realized that he needed to take them without shooting because the situation did not give the opportunity to shoot.
Guns make very poor clubs. Using a handgun as a melee weapon is never the the intelligent first choice.

(8,142 posts)If someone did not practice you would say they were not prepared or trained enough and when they do practice, they are like "most here who strap on a gun or two before venturing out". Make up your mind, or minds.

(86 posts)beyond their control, and some of us either shop there or drive 60 miles to another store. If I were to do that I imagine somebody would be pissed at me for using that much gas. It's a no-win situation when it comes to Wally World and "liberals" (I'm a liberal by most criteria but not so much it makes me an idiot).

(12,132 posts)that the want to get DNA off the gun so if/when they find the attacker who got hit they can compare? Or maybe if he's attacking people in a store he is already on file and the DNA will identify him?
Either way though, they could just swab his gun couldn't they? No need to take it - especially when he isn't being charged. Of course, I only know CSI forensics so I'm just asking...
