http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/02/10/fathers-facebook-tough-love-video-to-his-daughter-goes-viral-sparking-debate/A viral video of a father firing his .45 at his daughters laptop after she blasted him on her Facebook page has sparked a fiery debate about parenting and tough love.
Tommy Jordan posted the video entitled, Facebook Parenting: For the troubled teen on YouTube on Wednesday. By Friday, it was closing in on two million views. Jordan went public with the clip after daughter Hannah posted on Facebook an open letter to her parents griping about what most 16-year-olds would complain about at that age: having to do chores and not having the latest gadgets bought for her.
In the video, Jordan sits on a chair with a cigarette in hand and a printed-out copy of his daughters posting in the other. He also has a .45 caliber holstered to his belt.
The angry dad starts off with a message to his daughter.

(18,482 posts)...this assault targeted an object rather than a person. I don't like the discipline of minors to involve any form of violence. Hitting your kid is not sending any kind of a good message.

I'm not a person who has to be exceptionally green and need recycle everything just so I can say so but there are truly those who are in need. Waste is evil.

(49,445 posts)However, in this case, you have the issue of being unable to simply "give it away". It's chock-full of private data.. names, addresses, credit-card numbers, bank information, SSA numbers, etc.
A wipe and OS reinstallation would take quite a bit of time, assuming you know the login name and password, and simply removing the hard drive and microwaving (or shooting) that one item may not be readily possible; they shoehorn a lot of stuff into those laptops. Locating and removing it might take a long time and/or special tools... and you might break something in the process.
I'm just saying that if I was going to do it in a fit of rage, I would microwave it in front of her. I don't necessarily object to shooting electronics, except that you need to do it someplace safe and NOT while in a fit of rage and with the object of your rage looking on.

A reinstall would take 90 minutes and about 15 minutes of interaction from me. No screwdrivers required.

Guy is a total idiot. 'Explosive rounds'? Bullshit (or a felony).
Total fucking moron, not worth the attention he is getting. Probably a shitty parent too.
