From THE BOROWITZ REPORT (The news, reshuffled.) April 23, 2014:
Gov. Deal told reporters that the slogan was more than just words, reflecting Georgias determination to best its rival Florida for the nations most reckless gun law.
When Florida passed Stand Your Ground, we knew we were playing catch-up, Gov. Deal said. Thanks to the fine men and women in the Georgia state legislature, were No. 1.
Gov. Deal said he hoped that the states newly enacted Safe Carry Protection Act, which makes it legal to carry guns in bars, schools, churches, and some government buildings, would send the message that Georgia was taking its competition with Florida very, very seriously.
In recent years, if you wanted to fire off a gun any damn place you pleased, there was a sense that Florida was the state for you, he said. Were hoping to change that perception.
Did I mention that this was from the Borowitz Report?

(17,502 posts)concealed carry in the eastern cities (and in Europe) was actually more common. BTW, there was a time when the south had stricter gun laws. No, it wasn't after the the civil rights era and not pushed by anyone either of us would describe as liberal.

(18,479 posts)Part II, Chapter 34, Section 34-21:
(a) In order to provide for the emergency management of the city, and further in order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition therefore.
(b) Exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who suffer a physical or mental disability which would prohibit them from using such a firearm. Further exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who are paupers or who conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine, or persons convicted of a felony.
Section 34-22:
No person shall fire a gun, pistol or other firearm in the city, except in the defense of person or property, and except peace officers or military forces of this state or the United States, in the discharge of official duties.
Georgia has been firearm friendly for awhile.

(17,502 posts)which not only has SYG (which isn't a gun law, it is a self defense law) that makes Florida's look like DTR (in Californian you can chase em down while still shooting) plus you can carry in courtrooms (unless you happened to be a defendant in a criminal case, or a plaintiff in a civil case.) IIRC, Wyoming and Alaska are about the only states that you can't take a gun in a bar.
BTW, how is it the State's business if a church allowed guns or not? That is church/state separation.
Borowitz is funny when there is an element of truth in his satire. In this case, not so much.

Every time I bring this up, I get no response whatsoever. I wonder why that is.
