Law enforcement officials remind public of free gun safety locks

The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office is making an effort to remind the public of a program that supplies free gun safety locks on the heels of an accident in early March in which a 3-year-old Navarro County boy was fatally shot by his 8-year-old cousin.

Project ChildSafe is a nationwide venture that for a little more than a decade has supplied law enforcement agencies with free child safety locks for guns and firearm safety pamphlets to distribute to the public, Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon said.

The program is aimed at preventing incidents like the March 10 tragedy, which happened after the 8-year-old was able to access a loaded 20-gauge shotgun.

“Nothing can affect a family more than the loss of a child. To know that it’s because of the reckless storage of a firearm is even more devastating,” Cawthon said.

are pro gun groups http://www.projectchildsafe.org/supporter-orgs

It's too bad the anti-gun groups can't seem to be bothered to support this worthwhile project.

where the locks were "easy" to pick.

Said something to the effect that the free locks weren't safe enough and gun safes could be picked by 4yo's, he'd seen it on youtube. LOL

I suppose he thought the only safe gun was no gun or something silly like that.
