Illinois State Police mail out first 5000 concealed carry permits today

Before this you had to be a "special deputy" (= major $$$ contributor) to Tom Dart or his ilk, or a politician like State Senator Donne Trotter (caught at Midway baording a plane with his gun) to be allowed to carry. Now, all you need to be is a law abiding citizen with what I think is too much money handy.

But I know of a lot of instructors that are doing "free" or really inexpensive instruction to let some folks afford a permit.

Over 50,000 applications in so far and class demand is picking up.

Now I expect RahmCo to automatically blame any gunfire on the permit holders.

Gerald Vernon believes conceal-and-carry laws and responsible firearm owners are crucial to keeping people safe—especially in the communities hit hardest by crime.

"Over the last 20 years, I've been places I don't think a lot of other black people have been," he told the class. "I've spent a lot of time and a lot of money traveling the country and getting this training so I could bring it back to the community."

He added: "Most of what Americans know about guns they learned from TV and the movies, and 99 percent of it is wrong."

Vernon was in my Basic Pistol instructor class. He doesn't tolerate the ignorance that some folks here embrace.

11. Still waiting for my ability to get a non-res so I can carry outside my vehicle in IL.

But MO, WI, IA, KY and IN along with every state besides HI plays too fast and loose with their mental health screenings for CCW.
