It's fairly easy and inexpensive to take steps to make your home more secure and less of a target to criminals.

If you practice situational awareness while in public you can avoid most violent occurrences. (Situational awareness can simply be described as not walking with a cell phone glued to your ear but being alert to your surroundings and listening to your sixth sense.)

A street criminal is far less likely to attack someone who is walking confidently and is alert. He will usually wait for what he views as a weaker member of the herd to surprise.
