hack89
(39,171 posts)if the thief would have simply ran away he would be alive.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)Charged a man with a shotgun! Surrrrrrre!
I bet that happens a lot there in Mayberry.
And Sheriff Andy lets the killer walk.
hack89
(39,171 posts)I suspect he was desperate enough.
Interesting you always take the side of the criminal.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)But unlike you, I'm not taking the side of the unjustified killer either!
hack89
(39,171 posts)rdharma
(6,057 posts).... that you would believe the killers "justification for murder" story.
Come on! I'll bet even you don't believe that BS story the business owner made up!
premium
(3,731 posts)I mean, besides your vivid imagination.
premium
(3,731 posts)the Sheriff and the law disagree with your opinion him being an unjustified killer.
Hmmmm, who do I believe? The Sheriff, who investigated the shooting? Or an anonymous poster?
I'll believe the Sheriff, you know, the person who actually investigated the shooting.

(1,018 posts)From the story:
Jesse Ray Walker, 28, of Reidsville, was shot and killed at the business. Business owner Steve Hall shot him with a shotgun after Walker charged him, Page said.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)That's property!
Evidently if you shoot a man dead for a property crime in Mayberry, you can get away with it by saying that "he charged me".
Sure! Instead of getting the hell out of there, the thief thought he'd charge a guy with a shotgun!
Does that even pass the stink test? Really?
DonP
(6,185 posts)You seem to be very concerned that justice was not done here.
I'm sure you'll want to send a check to the memorial fund for the deceased to show how serious you are about this and to support further investigation and possible prosecution of the shooter.
Or do you just pretend to be empathetic online?
rdharma
(6,057 posts)I guess that's the law in Mayberry.
Even the shooters wife said the thieves made a run for it.
"Steve Hall left his home armed with a shotgun, she said. Joan Hall saw the two men run towards Flat Rock Road. She also heard one or two shots fired, she told the dispatcher." http://www.news-record.com/news/local_news/article_ac232cd6-eb03-11e2-bac9-0019bb30f31a.html
I guess the guy who got shot thought he would just turn and charge a guy with a shotgun.
DonP
(6,185 posts)If it makes you feel better consider it "suicide by threatened property owner".
If the deceased would have stayed home watching reruns of I Love Lucy, no problem. But he made other, poor choices.
rdharma
(6,057 posts).... who knew he could get away with murder in Mayberry.
DonP
(6,185 posts)Another keyboard commando for justice that talks a good game on activism and always seems to take the side of the criminal, who of course was just minding his own business when the big bad gun owner shot him.
Crooks are stupid and often unwittingly volunteer for the Darwin competition. This is a great example of that.
But the real world fact is, you don't do anything but whine online about any of this. .
Buh, bye
rdharma
(6,057 posts)We saw what happened in Sanford, FL with these laws.
DonP
(6,185 posts)You mean you're still just whining online with your activist posse here, and really doing not a damn thing in the real world about anything related to gun control in North Carolina or anywhere else. No memberships, no contributions and relying on Bloomberg to do all the work for you.
We can all tell how active you are at "getting the "open season to legally murder" laws revoked in NC"
Let us know when you get a petition started. Ha!

(3,731 posts)after all, you're very good at it.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)..... I just called BS on this business owner's story for his legal justification for murder.
Does that bother you?
premium
(3,731 posts)Did you see it go down? If you did, have you told the Sheriff your side of the story yet?
rdharma
(6,057 posts)........ against the dead man's.
These laws really open up the possibilities to commit murder and "legally" get away with it.

(3,731 posts)I guess I'll just have to believe the Sheriff, you know, the person who actually investigated the shooting.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)......... is the guy who pulled the trigger.
Just like the Zimmerman case.
gejohnston
(17,502 posts)and the guy who ran is a witness. Zimmerman had two witnesses. The trouble with these articles is that they never give out important details. Media also distorts reality and often needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)And you think "Mayberry CSI" is going to come up with the truth of what really happened?
Oh, puhlease........ give me a break!
gejohnston
(17,502 posts)Or the Duvall County ME that was fired from another county for unsanitary conditions, or Seminole County that leaves wet clothes in plastic bags for a month, destroying DNA, not bagging hands to preserve DNA. You might have a valid point for a change.
If you know any CSI types, I think Seminole County, FL, will be hiring after a deserved house cleaning.

(7,720 posts)The dead burglar had an accomplice.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)Two guys running from a guy with a shotgun.
The only thought in that accomplice's mind was getting distance between himself and the guy with the scatter gun!
He wasn't looking back...... and even if he was, his testimony wouldn't be worth shit anyhow!
CokeMachine
(1,018 posts)Again from the article -- did you even bother to read it?? There actually was a witness/accomplice. Oops!!
According to Page, Hanks was arrested at his home Monday morning, and implicated himself and Walker in the break-in. Page said Hanks fled after Walker was shot.
Bolding mine.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)Know what I mean? Unless Mrs. Business owner was lying to the dispatcher before the shooting occured!

(1,018 posts)If you have more information (not speculation) then please shar it with me.
Have a great afternoon!!

(68,644 posts)I suppose some would say that the criminal is entitled to be a thief without fear of repercussion, that the victim should just stand by and call police and hope for the best.
But many of us think that the criminal's "rights" to not feel the paid ends at the property line.
Add to that the likelihood that the criminal has the capacity to become violent and many of us feel that it's better to be safe than sorry.
I wasn't there this time but I'm not shedding any tears over this.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)......... I'm talking about the owner's ability to carry out "legalized murder" and get away with it.
Under these bizarre "SYG laws" and "Castle Doctrine laws" we're going to be seeing many more such cases. And the victims are not always going to be "deserving" scumbags!
