New App Allows Users To Mark The Address Of Gun Owners

http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/guns/new-app-allows-users-mark-address-gun-owners

A new app called Gun Geo Marker allows users to track and monitor the locations of “irresponsible gun owners.”

The website argues that the app could help parents avoid gun violence against children by raising awareness and by making it easier to avoid risky gun owners.

The app allows users to mark a location and then add detailed information about how the gun owner is dangerous or irresponsible. For example, the website says, “Does a gun owner you know fail to use a gun lock? If you know of such a gun owner, mark the the [sic] location at which they store their firearm with the Gun Geo Marker App.”

The website acknowledges that Americans have a right to bear arms and it discourages users from reporting general gun enthusiasts or hunters because “These are normally the people who have the highest level of commitment to gun safety, and abide by the laws regulating their hobby.” Instead, the website suggests that users target gun owners who “frequently displays or brandishes weapons” or who makes verbal threats mentioning a gun during confrontations.

Well, this will help with the transfer of guns from legal owners, to thieves. AtheistCrusader Jul 2013 #2

Wouldn't it be just as useful for child molesters and drunk drivers?

If every house is marked as having a gun, then nobody can tell where the guns really are.

How long it will be before the crooks figure out how to use these types of apps to determine who doesn't have a gun, and that it is therefore safer to rob?

Wouldn't it be easier for the BansALot crew to just voluntarily put signs up that they don't have any guns in their home?

1 - couldn't you just make stuff up about anyone out there? There's no way to actually verify that something someone puts is true. Couldn't I say that someone sacrifices goats to the volcano gods, and get away with it? Who is going to come check?

2 - wouldn't this be a burglar's favorite app? I can't imagine anyone else caring about it.

3 - how does this protect anyone? Gun owners don't always stay in one area.

I installed it, and found it under whelming.

It's not entirely useless though.
I plan on using it to tag gun stores, or bussiness that sell firearms, ammo, accessories and leave helpful comments like: "excellent prices on ammo", "has indoor range", "full-auto heaven", "shop owner is a wanna be SEAL with rip off prices... stay away".

It could come in handy if looking for stores in an unfamiliar local, especially when traveling out of state.

Hey I need a new gun but can't buy one legally, lets download this app and use the info there to find the houses of people who have nosy neighbors and keep their gun unsecured in their nightstand and live alone!
