Current NICS Background Checks

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) satisfies requirements of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993 (Brady Act), Public Law 103-159.
Individual states have the option to operate as a full "point of contact" between the FFL and bureau. These states may add state and local records to the federal databases searched when an NICS check is run. This option allows states with strict laws regarding privacy to make a more complete a check than possible without the full "point of contact" option.

The full POC option seems to me to be better and I favor this option for states with privacy laws restricting the release of information, which according to the design of the NICS ought to be included in the list of disqualifications.
I thought New York and a few other non-POC states had tighter privacy laws.
Some but not all "may issue" states are full POC states. For those states more concerned with state input to CCW issue, I'm surprised that there are "may issues" states colored green.
