(4,424 posts)Just Saying
(1,799 posts)Several times to teach gun safety. I think they cover it.
discntnt_irny_srcsm
(18,482 posts)That was my choice as well.

(1,799 posts)And do we really need a law for it? Imagine what our Congress would do with it.
discntnt_irny_srcsm
(18,482 posts)...being passed at the state level. The teaching of driver's ed, fire safety... are entirely proper in schools. Those safety issues and safe behavior/precautions around firearms seem like good ideas to me.

(17,502 posts)could simply be repealed with one requiring it. The rest is the Fed overstepping its bounds in our federal system.

(18,482 posts)I didn't really want to open the state v federal can of worms.

(24,853 posts)Most insurance companies won't touch it, much like the financial institutions deserted gun makers because of public pressure.
In steps the NRA offering cheap insurance to any/all of its members. It'll be cheap, and it'll be comprehensive. How could the NRA do this, you might ask? While the politics of NRA members may be shit, their handling of guns will result in very few claims.
So go ahead withy our wish to force gun owners to carry insurance for their guns, and watch the NRA membership rise and rise. That isn't the ONLY thing that will get bigger though: So will their coffers. Millions and millions to spend on politics, thanks to those who forced gun owners to become NRA members.

(14,912 posts)leave my property. I also have "No Trespassing" signs posted all over my property, so if anyone else were to get shot, it would be for 2 reasons: #1 being if they broke into my home while I was there, or #2, they are breaking the law and trespassing on my land. In case #2, it would be purely accidental, because my spots I hunt both involve shooting down hill, into a hollow, and I am always sure of what I'm shooting at. The only way they would be hit is if they were breaking the law by trespassing, and got behind one of my target ranges, and it would be their own fault. If they survived and tried to sue my homeowners policy would cover it, but the would have to get out of jail first. That would be my first stipulation to them... "you don't try to sue me, and I won't have you arrested for trespassing".
I don't have to register, or insure, the 4 wheelers we ride on my property, nor do I have to register/insure the 4 wheel drive beater we play in the woods or mud pit with.
Give me a good reason why I would need insurance on my hunting rifle, or why my son should be required to have it on his, please.
Thanks in advance,
Ghost

(26,603 posts)Safety instruction is a close second, but I don't really see that as a law exactly, more a local curriculum decision...
discntnt_irny_srcsm
(18,482 posts)...that curriculum guidelines are set by the state departments of educations. While local variations in the exact design of class are going to be different, the topics covered, targeted standards and time spent should be set by the states.
