Source: nyt/reuters
A recently enacted law in Kansas intended to block enforcement of federal gun regulations is unconstitutional, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder wrote in a letter released on Thursday.
The law, which seeks to keep guns or ammunition from being subject to any federal regulation - as long they are kept in Kansas - directly conflicts with federal law, Holder wrote in the April 26 letter to Kansas Governor Sam Brownback.
"Federal officers who are responsible for enforcing federal laws and regulations in order to maintain public safety cannot be forced to choose between the risk of a criminal prosecution by a state and the continued performance of their federal duties," Holder wrote.
The law also bans federal or other agents from enforcing federal regulations in the making or sale of Kansas-made firearms.
Holder said a state "may not criminalize the exercise of federal responsibilities" and that all federal laws remain in effect.

(46,192 posts)are you proud that you told Robb to f--- off?
are you proud that you circumvented the rules to continue posting in a safe haven group after you were blocked by editing your posts?
and why?
because when it comes to guns, you literally lose it.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)i didn't save it but someone did.

Krispos, please do something. This one only posts in this group to troll and disrupt.
Have a good day!!
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)nor was I the one who edited multiple times in violation of the TOS to participate in a safe haven group I'd been blocked from.
maybe you should complain about the person who has actually broken the rules.
in closing, THIS group is NOT a safe haven group.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)This ain't FreeRepublic!
Safe haven group, good grief.
People who bully and stalk and bait trying to get others in trouble need a safe haven? What an upside-down world!
So, seriously, I get to the city at least once a month and we ought to get together if you want.
I've met up with several DUers over the years!
Lemme know.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)that's what you did. except you didn't edit the expletives like i did. you spelled them out.
that's what you tried to justify in the hosts group thread.
that's what you finally changed in your profile when I called you on it.
are you saying it's okay to call someone those names?
probably. you're bulletproof, why shouldn't you think your stuff doesn't stink? you never have thought that before, even when it did.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)And when I say anything positive or nice or communicative you pay no attention.

pretty sure i don't want to be called a friend based on that.
especially since days later, you are still either running away from it, or justifying it.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)We worked together is all, and I was happy when he became a dad.
But he got all worked up about my post protesting the decision by admins to let guns into GD and brought it up over and over.
Any rational person would agree that blocking me from the group was a huge over-reaction but there are no guidelines so now the group just looks silly for blocking people for the most petty excuses.
I meant what I wrote, too, that I'm glad you have your group, but I think it's funny because I was never much of a poster on the topic until the gungeon was let into GD.
But a handful think I'm an NRA shill or some crap.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)you wanted special treatment to avoid the block and that's not how it works.
you don't have to rack up a dossier in that group to get blocked, if you are against gun control and post in that group in a way that reflects that, my observation is that you can be blocked on the first post.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)That was personal, based on blind emotion and not reason.
I've posted extensively about supporting expansion of our state's laws (CA) nationwide, for closing loopholes, for extended background checks and preventing violent offenders from ever being near a gun.
I don't support banning guns or repealing the second amendment, and I never disrupted in that group, so the block was bullshit.
premium
(3,731 posts)Now that's some funny stuff right there.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)the rules of that group are well known and well understood.
if there's someone in there posting in support of gun control and you go in there as an opponent, my observation is that you will be blocked fairly quickly.
that group is a safe haven for gun control. this group is not a safe haven in opposition to it.
being that you've been here just two months, it's not surprising that you don't know the rules (to the extent that you would think it's ok to put "Fuck off" in one's profile).
also, being here two months, how would you know the practices of that group and the blocking of that group?
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)Let's talk with Skinner about that, shall we?
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)hmmm.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)Jesus, the host of the ed group unilaterally blocked a bunch of teachers for not agreeing with her because, she said, other people complained.
Weak!
With the ed group, I complained, the blocked members were unblocked.
This ridiculous secret club model of DU exclusive secret groups that make their own juvenile rules and hosts that block reasonable arguments or people they just don't like is going to be (or has already been) the end of this board.
I'm really disappointed in Robb, and others if complicit, because it doesn't have to be this way.
Robb should have called billh58 on his baiting shit and not rewarded him by blocking me.
That loser move is out there for everyone to see.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)hmmm?
and...after looking, there are only two members blocked from the education group.
i never heard of a bunch being "two". you? how many is a bunch, or did those blocked turn out to be PPR'd trolls?
as for your opinion of Robb, you already wrote what you thought of him in your profile before.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)First, the aforementioned blocked members are blocked no more, this much was evident from my reply above. I intervened and changes were made.
Second, the assumption that one is exclusively a teacher, or a law enforcement agent, or some other singular thing is rather dated and narrow-minded and leaves out an awful lot of actual RL roles and careers.

(3,731 posts)you and your colleagues have created? After all, we do have things to add? Anyone with a difference of opinion is promptly blocked, but here, Krispo42 has been very, very tolerant, and rightly so.
He seems much more benevolent than the Hosts at the other group.
The reason I got blocked was because I went after Hoyt after he told a lie about me despite my correcting him numerous times, but a certain Host didn't like that so, I was blocked, when I sent a respectful PM asking why, all I got back was a rude, snarky reply.
CokeMachine
(1,018 posts)"Then why are you replying to an informational OP I posted here?"
Answer = I was replying to you attacking NYC_SKP and the snarky post YOU wrote even after he told you of his mother's passing. IMHO that post was pure bullshit and below even you.
"if I add nothing to the group?"
Answer =
"an OP that NYC_SKP decided to kick from the archives in order to scold me."

CreekDog
(46,192 posts)breaking the TOS by editing posts multiple times in order to circumvent the software which is blocking you from a safe haven group is nothing to apologize for?
by DU standards, they've broken a bunch of rules.

(3,731 posts)and those comments are allowed to stand, things like gun humpers, gun fetishists, gun lovers, blood on our hands, etc.,so why should I give two cents worth on whether your feelings are hurt?
In my little over 2 months here, I've seen some vile things said about gun owners and I've haven't seen you calling for an apology, why is that?
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)while calling them the "only psycho" among the moderators...
i don't even think NYC SKP thinks what they did was okay, though they won't dare apologize for it.
however, they took it down once they were caught, so they know it was wrong.
you are defending behavior even they won't defend.

(3,731 posts)If you can't see the irony, then there's no use continuing this conversation any further.
I'll tell you what, when you call for an apology from those that constantly demean DU gun owners, then I'll call on NYC-SKP to apologize, fair enough?
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)if you have been here two months, you don't know me or anyone else here nor the history of this place enough to lecture.

CreekDog
(46,192 posts)the poster was making characterizations and observations of people and things at DU that take a long time to observe.
yes, it's wrong to call someone a troll for simply being new here, however, not only didn't i use that term, my only reference to the length of membership --which the poster themselves mentioned FIRST, was to point out that their credibility in those statements given their short history was limited by their time here.
it doesn't make them bad or anything like that, it just means that they haven't been here long enough to be credible on the point they were making.
CokeMachine
(1,018 posts)long before they actually sign up? I lurked about for a couple of years before I signed up. It doesn't take all that long to realize who(m) the players are and where they stand on various issues. There is a very vocal minority here that are all about control (words, guns, posters, etc.). Maybe it's because they can't control their own lives so their only release is in trying to control others'.

(46,192 posts)and now you say "apparently it was changed"???
like it's some sort of mystery to you that it ever said that? even though you defended doing that in the hosts' forum?
also, the poster you were arguing with, you told them they didn't live in Hawaii, saying they lived in another state. since that poster has never even mentioned this other state on DU, are you accessing information about them elsewhere and posting that as their location here?
and again, for the millionth time: "Aloha" does not belong on a message where you are telling someone else to "F--- off".
you don't get it.

(46,192 posts)you then went to the host group to defend what you posted against Robb but not ever apologizing for it, nor expressing regret.
please stop referring to where I or another poster lives. the fact that you told another poster that they lived somewhere else even though they posted nothing about such a place is frankly creepy.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)Creepy is dropping in on posts, like what was done to my post about Molokai, to make some snarky comment that then gets deleted, then running to another forum to talk about it. That is, apparently, how some members roll and it has been officially endorsed and condoned by a host or hosts.
Stalking, baiting, blocking. Now that's creepy!
Anyway, it's no secret where you live, you've never made it a secret, and I come there a lot on business, sometimes for fun, hell, I even worked there for a spell but that was before the earthquake when you could get off on the Broadway exit.
I was out of town for the 89 quake but felt many of the lesser ones before that.
Did you live in the city during the big one?
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)you also lectured that poster (in the gun control group) telling him where he lived and where he didn't live. as if you had inside information.
that's weird.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)That hidden post was the start of all this juvenile bullshit.
He never did answer my question about Molokai.
Speaking of weird, somebody recently questioned my career history, education versus law enforcement or whatever.
Creepy, right?
Anyway, I assume you missed the 89 quake.
I remember driving into the Bay Area the day after and how empty the freeways were, I didn't go into SF- I wouldn't have even tried, but it was spooky.
So the waterfront has really improved since they tore down the elevated freeway, hasn't it?
And I'm so glad that the Ferry Building is done. I worked on that in yet a different career back before the quake.
Do you like the embarcadero or do you think it's too touristy? And have you been to the new California Academy of Sciences?
I've was there on opening day and have been there many times since, it's a remarkable place!
