(17,493 posts)However that doesn't mean that I support ineffective "feel good" laws such as another ban on assault weapons or high capacity magazines.
I prefer efforts to improve our existing laws in ways that will make them more effective, better enforce these laws and impose strong penalties on those who disobey them. I also support efforts to improve our mental health care system.
Much of the gun violence in our nation is a result of drug gangs fighting over turf. We lost our War on Drugs decades ago and should consider the legalization of some drugs and use the taxes generated to treat those who suffer from addiction.

(24,135 posts)is the goal I'm shooting for.
Waiting for the responsible gun owners to start acting responsible is exhausting..

(17,502 posts)most of the murders are committed by people who are legally barred from having them. So, responsible and legal gun owners, mostly, are responsible.
Someone could have a gun for years and then one day...
Like my neighbors ex who killed their 9 yr old son.
Happens all the time.

(39,171 posts)and the number of gun deaths has fallen year after year even as gun ownership has skyrocketed, responsible gun owners are to blame?
If responsible gun owners are such a danger, why hasn't the number of gun deaths increased over the past 20 years? I thought more guns meant more deaths?
