Few in U.S. See Guns, Immigration as Nation's Top Problems

Few Americans mention guns or immigration as the most important problems facing the nation today, despite the current attention lawmakers in Washington are giving to these issues. The economy still dominates as the top concern, followed by jobs and dissatisfaction with the general way in which Congress and the government work.

you cant discuss what's really on people's minds, because it's harder to shove your agenda down their throat

However that doesn't mean that I support ineffective "feel good" laws such as another ban on assault weapons or high capacity magazines.

I prefer efforts to improve our existing laws in ways that will make them more effective, better enforce these laws and impose strong penalties on those who disobey them. I also support efforts to improve our mental health care system.

Much of the gun violence in our nation is a result of drug gangs fighting over turf. We lost our War on Drugs decades ago and should consider the legalization of some drugs and use the taxes generated to treat those who suffer from addiction.

is the goal I'm shooting for.

Waiting for the responsible gun owners to start acting responsible is exhausting..

most of the murders are committed by people who are legally barred from having them. So, responsible and legal gun owners, mostly, are responsible.

Someone could have a gun for years and then one day...

Like my neighbors ex who killed their 9 yr old son.

Happens all the time.

and the number of gun deaths has fallen year after year even as gun ownership has skyrocketed, responsible gun owners are to blame?

If responsible gun owners are such a danger, why hasn't the number of gun deaths increased over the past 20 years? I thought more guns meant more deaths?
