Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumWhy are "gun safety advocates" so poor at actual gun safety?
First, we had this classic-with Dianne Feinstein's finger on the trigger and not looking where she's pointing
the muzzle of the gun she's holding...
Then we have Joe Biden advocating firing a shotgun through a closed door
without knowing what's on the other side...
The latest ones are from a couple of videos from Mayors Against Illegal Guns posted on YouTube.
The first one is entitled, with no irony intented, "Responsible"
Note the finger on the trigger and the muzzle held in an unsafe manner, as in
another video with the same purported "gun owner":
Gee, I wonder what the chances are of Mr. "Responsible" getting his Second Amendment rights
curtailed, as advocated here on another DU thread:

Answer: Slim to none, of course-he works for MAIG, and gun control is not for the likes of them
- just us.

(2,708 posts)icon: Note the finger on the trigger and the muzzle held in an unsafe manner, as in another video..:
Oh my gracious, how dangerous. Lucky she didn't have a real live victim like dick cheney the mighty pheasant hunter - I went hunting & all I got was a lawyer skin rug!
.. sheesh, remember that? cheney tried to hide it for as long as he could, trying to sweep his 'accidental wounding of another human being' under the rug & downplay it? he shot his shotgun & the spread left a shotgun pellet lodged against his lawyer friend's heart muscle, a bit more energy & he'd be deader than what shakespeare ever wished for.
.. And this was when cheney (the mighty dick) was shooting pheasant released from a pen I believe (or quail?), but can you blame him? who wants to go 'real hunting' out in the woods and all, cold, might rain & you'd get wet and all, a lot easier to go 'faux hunting' when birds are all in a cage & released & fly up & you shoot them down, just like if you were really hunting out of a duck blind on the chesapeake bay, or somewhere.
So icon, tell us how you'd describe cheney's hunting accident, maybe cheney's finger was on the trigger & he wasn't looking at what he was shooting at in an unsafe manner?
How about nra board member bob barr, shooting out a window with his gun several years back? how would you compare diane feinstein with either barr or cheney?
.. and how about first nra president harlon carter who when 17 shot & killed a man and was charged with murder but later charges dropped on a technicality (carter was american, his victim span-am, cough).
So icon, show us some pictures of cheney, barr, & harlon carter all behaving in an unsafe manner, with their guns.

(16,064 posts)we'll get there and when we do we wont have to see this kind of ridiculous argument form the gun fetishists.....
seriously you have absolutely no compelling argument for allowing private citizens to own guns so you resort to this nonsense argument? Really?

(3,291 posts)All the more justification for honest citizens to keep them.

(18,482 posts)History is full of examples:
- If your Dad's campaign against a certain evil oppressive dictator failed to eliminate that fellow's influence in the world, the simple solution is to start a war and remove him.
- While we're discussing "Dad", what about that campaign against Saddam while his administration was supporting a man like Mobutu? A war to help out the Kuwaitis and a little money to 'help out the Congolese', sounds simple to me.
When you're worried about re-election, you can just bug the phones of the opposing party. Simple!
- You've taken a position against Communism and the next two biggest kids on the block are communist. You notice that a faction within a tiny country is moving toward communism and is opposed by another faction. A great idea would be to escalate this struggle into a war and start bombing campaigns. Simple again.
- A while back some folks decided alcohol was a problem. The simple solution was a ban.
Guns are a problem but not in the way you think and the solution isn't simple. Thanks, though for contributing to the pool of irrelevance.

(2,282 posts)"nobody wants to take away your guns". At least that is a common refrain from the antigunners. Maybe you can set them straight.
friendly_iconoclast
(15,333 posts)...as the total ban you want isn't going to happen until the Second Amendment is repealed-and maybe not
even then.
Until then, you and the rest of the Prohibitionists will have to abide by it. Adjust

Even the premier gun control group gun control organization, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence does not want to ban all guns.
Q. Is Brady a "gun ban" organization?
A. No. Brady believes that a safer America can be achieved without banning guns.
We believe that law-abiding citizens should be able to buy and keep firearms. And we believe there are sensible gun laws that we can and should insist upon when it comes to gun ownership.
First and foremost, we should try to keep dangerous weapons out of the wrong hands, including criminals and children.
Second, there are certain classes of weapons that should be out of bounds for private ownership. They include Saturday-night specials, which are used almost exclusively for crime, military-style assault weapons like Uzis and AK-47s, and .50-caliber sniper rifles, which serve no ordinary sporting purpose.
Third, we believe that those who do own guns ought to be held to the highest standards of safety. They should be well trained in the use of their weapons and they should be required to keep weapons secure, so that neither innocent children nor prohibited persons can get a hold of them.

(17,493 posts)I automatically looked at his shotgun and realized right away that this "gun owner" desperately needed some firearm safety training.
If it was an ad targeted at responsible gun owners much of its message was lost through the stupidity of the producers and consequently was a poor investment.

(6,185 posts)You can't see clearly enough to be sure about his finger in the trigger guard, but if I was sitting on that tailgate next to him or anywhere nearby, I'd sure as hell say something to Cletus about moving his hand and pointing the muzzle elsewhere. I'd prefer the action be fully open as well.
But ... it's a "grass roots effort" and all Bloomie's money. I guess he doesn't feel the need for a technical consultant.

(6,185 posts)Bloomie dumped $2.2 million into our local 2nd district Democrat primary race. He bet on the sure thing, the woman that the Chicago Regular Dem party had already chosen for Jesse Jr's spot.
Debbie Halvorson, who he targeted in the ads, hadn't been backed by the NRA in 3 election cycles, and then she was supported by the NRA against the GOP candidate they ran against her, Adam Kinzinger.
Applauding and lionizing a 1 man, Citizen's United founded Super Pac, that spends money against Dem candidates, and says he will in future elections, just seems odd on DU.

(12,194 posts)Most folks define "gun safety" as safe firearm handling, usage, and storage practices.
The folks in question, however, define is as "lets ban the firearms that we think the proles shouldn't have, then we'll have gun safety".
