Cops seize large capacity ammunition magazines in Arlington

Arlington Police are seeking criminal charges and have seized six large capacity ammunition magazines from a Boston man after he allegedly drove into and severed a telephone pole early Saturday.

Police said Tuesday that they have filed a criminal complaint seeking that Kyle Laidman, 28, be charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, texting while driving and possession of large capacity ammunition magazines without a license.

The criminal complaint will go before a magistrate in the Cambridge District court for a probable cause hearing sometime in the next month, police said Tuesday.

6 EMPTY Pmags, to a "machine gun"...
Lucky they didn't explode on impact.

"six thirty-round machine gun ammunition magazines" so if he in fact does not own a machine gun what harm are 6 plastic boxes, what makes them so inherently dangerous they are a felony item. As for "high" capacity, standard M16 and AR magazines are 30 rounders so that is a bit..disingenous itself.

On this case, the law is the law, it is an absurd and excessive limit, but it is the law, so no sympathy from me, thats why I live where I do.

Nor should they operate firearms while under the influence.

People like that have a special name: Dumb ASS.

Good thing no kids were in the car.

The key crime in this story is a drunk guy texting while driving and getting himself wrapped around a telephone pole. Since no gun-related crime was committed, and the gun magazines were not contributing to the wreck, this does not meet the SoP of the Group.

On appeal from the OPer, who believes this story is relevant in terms of pending federal and state bans on ?11 magazines, I've unlocked the thread.

This is my petition to unlock

Reason: The headline of this article is "Cops seize large capacity ammunition magazines in Arlington". The majority of the text concerns the large capacity magazines and how unlicensed possession of large capacity magazines are a "serious crime" in the state of Massachusetts. How does this not fit the SOP?

Besides the fact that regulations on large capacity magazines are a current topic of gun politics.

This is a bad lock!

A man was driving around with 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!( !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) empty MACHINE GUN magazines and a pistol magazine marked LAW ENFORCEMENT AND GOVERNMENT USE ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good thing they stopped this pre-mass murderer before he could kill hundreds!!!!

Oh, BTW he was operating a 1-2 ton vehicle while intoxicated and struck a phone pole with enough force to break it in two...

But he had empty LARGE CAPACITY MAGAZINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, priority issue maybe

The rifle mags may be for a Steyr AUG, but several other makes are similar. Pistol mags made during the '94 AWB era were labeled Law Enforcement and Military use only. I have three; when the ban expired they became legal for the public to buy/own. No difference than non-labeled pre/post ban mags.
