ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Just before 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, the burglar alarm went off at the residence at 1563 Georgia Avenue.

27-year-old Jimmy Jones Junior, a tenant at the residence, got his gun, thinking there was a burglar inside.

He spotted a dark figure moving, fired one shot which struck the individual in the elbow. Turns out, it was his roommate, 27-year-old Gene Anthony.

Family members who did not want to go on camera say that Anthony is in critical condition at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Something as simple as turning on the lights is always a help. ManiacJoe Jan 2013 #6

Perhaps someone with a medical background can smack me down. How do you end up in critical condition by being struck in the elbow? Severe bleeding or the like?

We hear of people shooting themselves in their extremities all the time and I can't recall them being in critical condition. Pretty much five times on Gun Appreciation Day.

Seriously, I'm curious. I'm not trying to be an unfeeling, unsympathetic ass.

I mean he knew he had a roomate, why not confirm it wasn't him before firing?

It makes no sense.

Turning on the lights is not adviced because it makes you vulnerable.

Darkness favors the prey/hiding.
Turning on the wrong lights (eg, the ones behind you) would be a bad thing....

Or have retreated to a safe room.

If you have decided to clear the house (not recommended) or have otherwise gone on the hunt, darkness favors the prey.

Some people don't care for rail mounted lights, but I kinda like them. But that's just me.
