many Scottish Presbyterians who signed the covenant did so in blood, and wore red scarves to signify their support; they became known as "rednecks", and many of these lowland Scots "redneck" dissenters went to Ulster and thence to North America (where they mostly ended up in the South and many of their descendants later became Baptists).
