My Friend Is Terminally Ill and needs to place Bubble & Squeaks.

My dear friend Sharon is on home hospice care right now and she has two seven year old cats, a boy and a girl, spayed & neutered, that she needs to try to place together. She lives in NY in the mountains by Cooperstown. They go in and out right now but would prefer to find someone who would help them adapt to indoor all the time. They are very sweet. I would take them but I live in MN. and have four cats right now.
They have placed flyers around but no takers. This is very very hard since last Friday she had to place her 11 yr. old yellow lab. Uggh. So sad.
Does anyone have any ideas also if I could cross-post this?
I feel that she will be passing soon.... I am so so so so damn sad.......just got off the phone with her and want to try to help her if I can. We are very close and I am having a hard enough time thinking of her leaving this world.....

I am not ready to take in any cats, since I have a newer adoptee who is bleeding me dry with health problems. But I do think that you should post in the Lounge and in NY. If they don't like it, they can alert on it---but what is there to lose?

My last two cats were older cats whose human mom had passed away, so I know how hard it is to find a home....they had tried for months before they found me. Best of luck that it does not take long and you find a lovely home.

and am now checking into transport costs just in case as a last last last resort they have to come here. Quote so far is $750 special rescue rate for this situation from a Company. OUCH! Do not have that kind of money. WE could pitch in $200 but.... and then our house would be really stressed with nine pets!!!!!!!!!! I hope an angel is out there somewhere.

I volunteer for a great no-kill shelter, but it is in Wisconsin. We would take them in, place them as a pair after giving them medical checkups, microchips, spay/neuter if needed, plus routine vaccinations. The adoption fee would be just $25 for both, because they are over a year of age. (Adult cats are $25 for one, second one free.) Potential adopters are screened for permission to have pets if they rent, and must be over 18 and have the permission of every other adult they live with before they can adopt.

A good shelter has these advantages over just handing the cats over to a friend-of-a-friend. That's my opinion anyway. So I'd say look for a good one in your area.

8. Check with the vet that has cared for these two kitties

My vet takes in her patients when their human caretakers pass on if other arrangements for their care have not been made - and then she places them in appropriate homes.

Even if the vet is not willing to do that, odds are that the vet works with various rescue groups or maintains a bulletin board and would be willing to post a notice of their availability for adoption.

I've never taken in an animal from a traditional rescue group - but I've taken in several animals in need of homes after learning of their availability from a vet. Some of them came with a medical history. All of them came with basic medical care and any needed diagnostic work and necessary meds. Most of them came without any cost whatsoever.

I follow a lot of animal related groups/organizations that are really good at getting the word out on tough luck cases.

they would not do well with it. They have been basically house kitties and well loved. This situation is hard on both her and her Bubble and Squeaks.

If I was capable, I would take them. But I live in Florida with five cats already. Breaks my heart to think of having to give up any of my babies.

Also, look into http://www.care.com/ they also allow you to post requests like this.

Best of luck.

loving home for them. Somewhere. CA people have responded well but they are so far away.
Just spoke with her today and her daughter wanted my email in case she passes during all of the searching......there is talk of somehow ether doing a fundraiser to get them here or maybe a friend who is visiting her possibly in Feb. maybe could drive them..... but we have seven rescues now. Many old and need continual vet care. As a last resort we will take them as we know at least she would be happy to know that they have an actual loving home. The best case scenario would be if someone with a good indoor calm loving home would want to adopt them. They are very sweet.
Thanks for asking..... we keep hoping for the angel to appear!

Some of the group homes in the company I work with have cats (dogs not allowed).
These cats 'belong' to the house and have good lives.

Also maybe assisted living places could do with a pair of therapy cats. Somehow a visit from a warm purring cat makes the day better...they're choosing YOU.

Wish I had better suggestions...have four here and the social dynamic is...well...delicate.
Don't think D'Artagnan appreciates Raven a-tall...boy's had a personality change since we lost Esme and there's nothing I can do for him.
