Related: About this forumBeagle Freedom Project,
a group devoted to rescuing beagles used for lab research (and to ending the practice), is attempting, with other animal welfare groups, to persuade pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to release several hundred beagles being held in a Swedish lab facility to their care for rehabilitation and, ultimately, adoption. Evidently, the pharmaceutical giant is scaling down its operations and no longer needs the beagles. However, rather than release them, it appears they are interested in selling them to other laboratories in Europe for testing purposes.
More info is on the Beagle Freedom Project Facebook page, and a petition can be found at https://www.change.org/petitions/astrazeneca-please-set-the-beagles-free?utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=url_share&utm_campaign=url_share_before_sign.
BFP is a great group and has proven time and again that beagles rescued from labs can go on to enjoy happy lives in good homes.
Thought I'd help get the word out. My Bean is on board:

(9,874 posts)When I first bought my house years ago one night I heard scratching at the front door. I opened the door and in walks this beagle, wiggling his tail, who then plopped himself down under the coffee table and went to sleep. We fed him and the next day went around the neighborhood looking for people who lost a beagle and lo and behold it was our next door neighbor who had a dog house in the yard and never let the dog in the house - said he was a "hunting only" dog. The dog had dug a hole under the fence next to his dog house.
So the neighbor fenced in the dog house with chain link, then about a week later, more scratching at the door. This happened 4=5 more times and we couldn't figure out how he was getting out until I saw him take a running leap to roof of the dog house, lean backwards against the fence and backflip over the fence into our yard. Poor guy just wanted some company.
All this apparently was just too much trouble for the neighbor and one day the dog just disappeared. We suspect he put him down. Some people should just not be permitted to have animals.
