(135,425 posts)I dehydrate thick slices of sweet potato.
That's it. Cut the slices good and thick, put them in the dehydrator for a couple of days, and that's all there is to 'em.
Both my dogs go after 'em like they're laced with opium or something.
You can buy them, too (Crump's and Sam's Yams) but they ain't cheap.

(5,946 posts)I nuke sweet potatoes in my microwave, slice it thickly and put it in the fridge, the dog likes the cold treats.

(135,425 posts)They grab their chunk and gnaw on it for a good long time. It's not quite rawhide, but it does the tooth cleaning thing and gives them a nice chewing workout. They also travel well when I dry 'em out.
I know, though, that the dogs will eat sweet potato any which way I have it, or squash, too. They're veggie fiends. They go for raw carrots too, as well as dried ones. The upside is that they're not snobs, but "their shit don't stink!" The vegetables really do cut down on stinky turds!

(5,946 posts)but there is Blue dog and rachel rayes - that is currently on sale in shop rite.
I used to be very worried about this until I checked and found out all my medication is mad in China or Vietnam. Now I worry about me.
Oh, and if you are looking for things made int he US, remember they could still use dried milk products from China where it is apparently much cheaper. And most vitamins - people and animal are now made in China. We are all going to die!!!

(5,946 posts)It used to be owned by Nabisco, but they sold it to del monte, so I was not sure if it did not get the corporate back hand. I wonder why they don't print made in the USA on the package, it would sell better, people look for that.
On further checking, they say it is the milkbone original treats only that are made in Buffalo.

(628 posts)This is such an important message and one you rarely hear on the news. I get alerts all the time from Dogfoodadvisor.com on the poison that's coming from China in our pets products. China places little value on human life. Do you really think they care about what they put in our pet products?
I'm reposting my reply to the original thread.
Right after this list came out I printed the article and took it with me to Petsmart. They had Canyon Creek and Milo's Kitchen on sale. I asked to speak to the manager and showed her the article. She said she had heard about it but there wasn't any recall by the companies so they continue to sell it. I was furious. Petsmart knows about this and wants to make sure they clear their shelves and get every penny out of the products just in case there is a recall and they have to pull the products. Everything on the OP list is still being sold. Here is the article I printed up.

These products are still being sold.
The best thing I ever did was join Dogfoodadvisor.com. The minute a product has been recalled or if a warning has been issued about a product, they send an email alert which I have set to come right to my phone also.
Here's a list of the latest recalled products. Most of the time you never hear about any of these recalls.
