Would you please consider "liking" the following Facebook page:

This is a new group forming in San Antonio, Texas. "SASS" stands for "San Antonio Street Saves". We have a horrible animal overpopulation problem in San Antonio. In 2005, a newspaper article entitled "Death By the Pound" brought many animal rescuers together and we've all been working toward change since then, with some degree of success, but certainly not as much success as we had hoped.
Our animal control facility is not animal friendly, and tends to harass groups that are trying to save animals rather than working with them. We've never really understood why that is.
SASS is a new coalition of animal rescuers. It is headed up by an old friend of mine. They are literally taking reports from citizens about stray dogs and cats, and then going in and doing what they can. In less than 2 months, they've had over 60 saves. They cannot, of course, answer every call. It is estimated that there are over 100,000 stray dogs living in San Antonio right now! But SASS is doing what they can.
They are trying to widen their exposure for a new campaign that they plan to launch in January, which campaign will be directed towards the link between domestic violence and animal abuse.
If you feel you can, please check out this page, like this page, and ask your friends to do the same.
Thank you in advance for your help with this.

(8,692 posts)I hated living in SA partly because of the pet overpopulation. Every single day I would see a dead cat or dog on any given road- whether it was I-10, 37 or a neighborhood road- always a dead animal. Highly upsetting.
One good thing that came out of it was this baby- found on the side of the road after being hit or thrown from a car. Friend of a friend found her, fixed her up and gave her to us.
I hope your friend finds some success!

(15,222 posts)Both for liking the page AND for saving this lovely girl. Very happy to know that she's safe and in a good home with you!
San Antonio is AWFUL and ACS is simply incredulous. They love to go after the little ole ladies with too many cats and yet completely ignore the animal abusers, cock fighting rings and dog fights.
