I can't post this in GD yet; been waiting for Sandy-related posts to be created, but there aren't any thus far.
But I want to post this particular wish created yesterday at Wishadoo in this group. This is a DUer who has helped with a few similar requests by DUers in need in the past.

Most everything is visible there, to be viewed (unless intentionally set to private). It's only when someone wants to contact another person or leave a comment that they must sign up and log in.
There was an update about the Wishlist post noted in my OP here.
You could visit that Wishlist post and contact the DUer who posted it, if that was your intention. You don't need to be logged in to view it, but to contact the member you must be logged in.
When logged in and you go here, you can click "contact member":
