The New Kid In The House

It has been a year and a half since I lose my beloved Sam. We decided it was time to get another dog. Ranger and Sweetie are not getting any younger and we love having three dogs. Ranger has recovered from his surgery and the vets are amazed at how well he has done. We also figured it would be a slow process. We were wrong.

A week ago this past Friday we went to the Humane Society just to look. I kind of thought we would end up at a GSD rescue but I was open to getting another dog that needed us. There were a couple that I wanted to think about and we were going to leave. My daughter and her boyfriend said there was a last row. I didn't think there were any dogs and then we saw him.

Him was a red and black GSD puppy. He wasn't eligible for adoption until Monday and we figured there would be a bunch of people there. We went and no one else came to adopt him. We took Ranger and Sweetie to meet him and it went as smoothly as it could. He was given the name Strider-LOTR fan here. We go him neutered and he came home Tuesday.

The name Strider didn't fit. His name is now Shadow. He follows the other two every where and has been just wonderful aside from the chewing and all of the other little things a puppy will do. I imagine Sam is smiling a little at the bridge while he waits for us.

Shadow is my buddy. He talks with Sweetie and jabbers with Ranger. It is a joy to watch him with the other two. They would have been great parents. The vet says Shadow is probably about ten months. We can get his last set of puppy shots after Thanksgiving. We practice on the leash and are looking forward to the doggie classes. It is a blessing to have the house full again. No one will ever take the place of my Sam but the hole in my heart has gotten a little smaller.

we can never replace the ones we lose but that doesn't stop us from loving another one and giving them a wonderful life.

Please post some pics when you get time. It's fun to have a puppy in the house and I'm sure Sam knows exactly what is going on and is smiling in approval .
