home remedies for a kitty summer cold

My Fatty has been sneezing and has runny eyes. All discharge is clear, so I'm not terribly worried, but he is uncomfortable.
We've just moved so I don't have a vet in my area yet. Anyone know of some home or over the counter remedies?
Thanks!

but I think it would be a good idea to find a vet in your area and establish a relationship, before you have bigger problems and still no vet. This could be a cold, or it could be an allergy to something in the new home or the environment. Or it could be something worse and this is just the start---when it is easiest to treat.

I am an advocate of having vets check out our babies. There is so little that they can tell us. On occasion, I have just let nature take it's course if it seemed to be just a cold, but I watch closely and make sure that it is getting better every day instead of worse. The problem with giving OTC meds is that it could mask a real illness.

That is my opinion.

2. L-Lysine

I give mine L-Lysine when they get symptoms such as these. I use the Viralys gel. L-Lysine works in the body by keeping a virus from replicating. The gel can be syringed up and then squired in their mouth. The powdered form of L-Lysine can be put in food, but some cats refuse to eat it.

What you are describing, especially since the discharge is clear, could very well be allergies, and may clear up on its own. Be sure to check that the cat is eating regularly. If their noses become clogged and they can't smell, they won't eat.

Offer lots of liquids so that the kitty doesn't become dehydrated.

If the cat looks sick, a visit to the vet is in order, of course. If you are new to the area, you might want to call a rescue group in that area and ask for a couple of names of vets. Usually the rescuers know the good vets who are cost efficient.

Good luck to you and your kitty!

Is it only sold online?
He'll be fine for 3-4 days, then start sneezing and runny eyes for a day. he's diabetic so I monitor his food and drink like a hawk. No change there.
It's a brand new subdivision in a kind of wooded area so I think the construction stirring up stuff may be what's bothering him.
Thanks for the advice!

If a cat is a carrier of a feline herpes virus, stress can cause a flare up. Moving is certainly a stressful event. They say most cats are carriers. Lysine supplements might help.

They cost about 10 cents each. Sorry can't link as i am on my mobile device. I am going to order some. I think my cat's runny eyes might be feline herpes and lysine could help. Lots of good advice in their comments section.

I have a kitty who does this in winter when the windows and doors are shut. She has watery eyes and sniffles, and sneezes occasionally. I think it is an allergy to house dust.
