there's an un-neutered kitteh hanging around my place

he's sweet as can be and we've made friends, but i'm bothered by the fact that he's not fixed. he's got a tag with his human's number on it, i'm thinking about calling them and pointing them to the low cost spay and neuter clinic in town.

i know that he's fighting because he's got what looks like a couple healing abscesses and i also know that fixing will not necessarily stop him from doing battle, my bigger concern is more strays.

does anyone think it's inappropriate for me to call his human(s)?

put his collar back on when he is recovered and let him go.

Only an idiot would let their cat run around unneutered. Do you really want to deal with an idiot?

cat does have a tag (and a bell) on his collar and i'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. i also can't afford the $50 dollars for the procedure and a rabies shot, which they require if you don't have proof of vaccination. i hope the guy has had his shots, there's been a lot of rabid skunks found around town this year.

be intentionally starting a feral cat colony. Only an idiot would cause all of that pain and misery unless they are just purposely cruel. If you cannot afford to help this cat call friends of animals and they will issue you a certificate for a free neuter/spay. The owner is irresponsible at best and if the cat isn't vaccinated in an area with rabies he is criminally negligent.

...that is a good idea.

They may not realize that very young cats are driven to mate. As the saying goes, ... he will be a much better pet if he is neutered. There will be much less suffering in the cat world, if homeless kittens are not being born.

Contacting his humans would be a kindness to animals.

A phone call from a stranger telling you what to do with your cat is really obnoxious. It will only piss off the person. They will neuter / not neuter as they wish or as they can afford, regardless of your call.

I would call them and let them know that the low cost program is available. I would mention all the kittens that might be produced, and also that he will probably be hurt in fights for years if he is not fixed.

But I would also hold off on judgment, since who knows, he may have been fixed and given fake testicles for the looks.

Also give them the benefit of the doubt that they may not have the money to fix him either, so try to find other options to help them if you can.

i have no idea why the cat isn't fixed and know it could very well be money, and i would give them the number for the low cost clinic in town.

i also had no idea anyone cat their pet fake testicles after neutering.

I think it is hysterical, and I doubt it is the case with your problem kitty, but they do exist. Knowledge is power. Now you know something you didn't know this morning.
