From dogs and rabbits, to guinea pigs and even birds, pet therapy animals come in all shapes and sizes. But volunteer-based organization Mane in Heaven keeps and trains miniature therapy horses, which they take to schools and hospitals to offer their therapeutic support. Nick Blumberg, from our partner station WTTW in Chicago, reports on the pint-sized equine mission.

(22,075 posts)Our recently adopted mini is a bit bigger than these little ones. He's also still a bit skittish--he came from an abusive situation (seized in a drug raid, living with a full size horse in a 12x12 dog kennel). He gets better every day though, and comes running when I call him to get a carrot. Finally getting some weight back on him too.
Animal therapy is great for young and old, many of which I'm sure, have never seen a horse up close. So glad these good folks can provide this service.
