After birthday party photos of Yoshi

Since we actually got a little sun today I got a few photos of Yoshi that I'll pretend I took on his birthday since it rained and rained on that day and we played in the backyard mud swamp. Most of them are with his birthday present of a stuffed wolf which he carries around everywhere he goes now. I got a few decent ones this time because he was a lazy fart today and I whipped out the camera while he was still snoozing. In a couple of the photos he looks really sleepy... you an alway tell if he's sleepy because his ears droop a little sideways (I call it "airplane ears syndrome&quot . Yeah, birthday pics!

And of course there's always a few unfortunate shots in the bunch... this one is yet another butt shot I got by accident when some critter suddenly scurried up the tree and Yoshi spun around and lunged after it. There better not be another squirrel building a nest in my tree again this year.

I get a lot of butt shot mistakes. This one was a recent one when he was beating up on his Mr. Lobster toy...

And the grand prize winner of the unfortunate photo shots is the nose photo. I get a ton of these, but this one is especially funny because you can't even tell what it is since this time he actually mashed his nose onto the camera lens just as I snapped the picture.

Every day with him is a joy. I will always miss Boo and the one before him, but I love each one just the same. I just adore this big hairy beastie. He's got his own personality and always makes me laugh. I just can't imagine life without him now.

I think of the three I've had he's the best looking one, but I think that's because he has all the little physical qualities of the Akita that I like best like his big round bear-like face. He's a lot bushier than the other two as well, and I just love his soft downy abundance of fur and how it makes him look really stocky and sort of rolly-polly. He's started to shed for the summer, and I hope it doesn't make him look skinny and weird though he'll certainly be more comfortable in the heat.

I finally got all the grass seed planted (all my grass in the back yard drowned and died last fall with the terribly wet weather with had this year), so hopefully the dirt patch will be green again soon. All the stubborn weeds even died, to so at least I'm glad of not dealing with them especially those damn vine type crawling weeds that have a really nasty profusion of roots that it's almost impossible to get rid of. Of course, Yoshi had to "help" with this project since he just adores dirt. Even though he was constantly in the way trying to attack the shovel and always standing or lying down RIGHT on the patch I was working on he did help a lot with breaking up the big dirt balls so I didn't have to hack at them with the shovel blade... he stamped and rolled on them to powder for me. Him "helping" made the work a lot more tolerable because he was just so funny even though his antics probably made it take three times as long to get done. So far he's not done much digging and after all this work I would not be happy with him digging it all up, but I still did sections separately and blocked him off from them until I got the first little pips of green coming up. Man, what a lot of back breaking work! Who knew dirt was so damn heavy???

12. I really think he does show it off!

It seems like he's always showing him bum to people even looking back over his shoulder to see if they notice. Dogs that have curled up or stand up tails doing that is a lot more strange and embarrassing looking than dogs with tails that hang down. It feels odd to be having "that" on such obvious display that you feel like you should look away. But he does have just an adorable fuzzy bum... almost like a sheep butt, and he has the two perfectly matched thigh high socks, too. It's almost a pity that he didn't make for a good show dog because judges would love his bum and his perfectly matched socks. It's really rare to get such identical socks on both sides.

One time last fall we lucked out with a beautiful Indian summer day so me and Yoshi went for a walk with my next door neighbor their fatso old Bull Mastiff and her little daughter on her tricycle. Yoshi was rushing ahead of strolling lazy fatso dog, Bubba, trying to keep up with the little girl zooming on her trike and blocker her from just flying across streets without looking (she knows she supposed to look both ways at crossings, but he personality is definitely that everyone in the universe better make way for her). Suddenly in the middle of our conversation my neighbor said "oh my god, doesn't he have just the most adorable butt in the whole world!" And it was really loud (she's a rather boisterous loud sort of person anyway). And just when she did that we were opposite a house that was having some kind of outdoor party, and there were a about 20 people on their porch that we hadn't even realized were there. ALL heads turned to us and gaped (I can only imagine what in the world we had been discussing but I really doubt they though it was a dog!). And my neighbor - true to form for her - turns to everyone and says "Well he does! Come and look at the adorable butt on this dog!". I was hoping we would just slink away and burn with embarrassment later, but no, my neighbor had to go and make the most of it. And sure enough, a flood of people trooped off the porch to look at Yoshi's butt. And everyone seemed to agree, yes, that is a really adorable fuzzy butt. Yoshi was just strutting with pride and happily putting his rear on display for inspection and discussion and looking over his shoulder at everyone making sure they all got a good long look. Now really, I realize that my neighbor is a little kooky and would do something like that, but why in the world would a big group of people interrupt a nice barbecue gathering on such a beautiful day just to go look at some dog's ass???

I still laugh about that and probably always will... but I find myself avoiding walking the dog past their house anymore since I'm still embarrassed about the whole thing.

He still hasn't yet figured out that he's a great big beastie now, so he hasn't yet learned he has to be not so boisterous with cuddling anymore. He constantly rubs up on me or anyone else, leans against you so hard you tip over and if you're ignoring him too much he stuffs his head under your butt and pokes it out the front and looks up at you with the big dopey doggie grin... "pet me damn you!" He's gotten so much taller, too, that when he does that to me he actually lifts me a bit off my feet so I'm sitting on his neck or shoulders like a horse. The little girl that lives next door thinks this is a riot. He's always gentle and obedient with her though. She has a natural very commanding presence about her that all dogs immediately respond to, and they adore her instantly, immediately do whatever she wants, patiently put up with any indignity she decides to bestow on them (like when she dresses up her family's Bull Mastiff in her grandmom's old clothes with a huge hat and paints pretty designs on him with her finger paints), and wiggle out of their skin with joy when she arrives. Yoshi probably wouldn't put up with the stuff that Bubba puts up with like the paints and granny's clothes but only because he never stays still unless he unconscious, not that he would have any problem wearing a beaded dress and a big floppy fruit laden hat for HER. And she's just a little four year old girl. I'm convinced she'll grow up to be president or a CEO of some huge company... or a queen of some obscure country that still has royalty.

At bedtime he dives into the bed with me, and we play Hide the Mommy for a few minutes and then have cuddle time in which he often squishes the air right out of my lungs since he hasn't quite figured out he's not a lap dog... or a head dog. Boo used to sit on my head to get me to wake up, but Yoshi sits on my head for any old reason when we're in the bed. He doesn't stay in the bed though because with all his fur it's too warm for him, and when he notices I'm starting to doze off, the book is put down and the last molecule of bedtime snack has been eaten he goes into the bathroom to sleep. But if the fan is on he goes and lays down in front of it hogging up all the air. And even though it's too warm for him in the bed he still hogs the comforter, all the pillows and generally the entire bed while I'm either mashed into the corner against the wall or defying gravity hanging off the other edge shivering for want of just a tiny scrap of a corner of blanket. Luckily I don't have to put up with his bed hogging of every square inch of space for long until he decides he's too warm and goes to the bathroom to cuddle up with the toilet. My first Akita also had a similar love affair with the toilet. If he's not with me or the little girl next door he can usually be found snoozing while wrapped around the potty. Gross, I know.

I just love our bedtime ritual. I don't think I'd be able to fall asleep very easily or sleep well without it now. BUt the toilet thing I'm not so keen on especially since it's such a small bathroom and when I need to pee he's REALLY slow about getting out of the way... most of the time I climb over him and perch on the "throne" with my feet in his lovely warm fur. I've actually dozed off a few times like that. He makes for a nice warm and soft footstool. If it wasn't for the fact that it's ridiculously embarrassing to be sleeping on the toilet (even though I live alone so no one would ever know) I'd probably just take a nap there.

He has a very black nose, doesn't he?

The problem with those curly tails is you do get a lot of "that's my anus!" shots.

Happy Birthday, Yoshi.

I swear sometimes he points it at you on purpose, too. He always does that to people that he first meets even looking over his shoulder to see if they're noticing his butt. It's funny that most people look a little embarrassed and quickly look away, and I KNOW it's because he's got the "plumbing" on display because of the upright tail.

It's really kind of funny when I walk him at night because so many areas we walk are not at all well lit, and if it wasn't for his light colored butt hair that glows in the dark I'd probably trip over him when he stops to sniff or do his business. And yet in the middle of the white expanse is this dark spot dancing along in front of me. I'm conditioned now to follow the little dark spot in the dark so we don't trip over each other.

I love the picture of him with the wolf in his mouth. And of course, who doesn't love the butt shots (thanks for sharing those).

He is a gorgeous dog! Glad he had a good birthday!

Generally all I get are either his arse or his nostrils. He's not terribly photogenic for sure.

Of the three Akitas I've had though they were/are all good looking I think Yoshi is the best looking of them. But I think that's because he has all those physical traits of Akitas that I like best, like his big round bear-face. My neighbors call him the bear-dog. The first day he came to me we were in the yard and at first they really thought he was an oddly colored bear cub at a distance. Now that he's older his face looks even more bear-like. And he has a much thicker coat than my others did as well which gives him a really stocky rolly-polly look. He's started to shed now for the summer and I'll be heartbroken if it makes him looks skinny and weird. He'll be so much more comfy without his winter coat in the summer though so I'll put up with it... then I'll get used to it, and in the fall when he grows his winter coat back I'll think he's getting super fat.

He is beautiful. Akitas are gorgeous dogs. I always loved their faces and those tails. I am sure he will be happy without all the winter fur! And I bet he will look skinny---Akitas put a LOT of fur on for the winter coat. I feel for you at this time of year. Cleaning must be a nightmare!
