Related: About this forumOur cat speaks Spanish
Our cat Rocky, a Maine Coon mix, decided some time back that he really likes cold water, as in from the fridge, or, if not immediately available, right out of the faucet. He also jumps up on the bathroom counter to get at a glass of cold water we set out for him.
A few weeks back, he was in the bathroom with me, looked up at me, and said something like "ah-hwa" (I don't write Cat, so that's an approximation). I didn't think anything of it at the time, but when he said it again a couple of days later, again in the bathroom, I realized it sounded like "agua," which is Spanish for water. The next few times it was pretty clear.
I just hope he doesn't start asking for food that way.

(12,858 posts)It really surprised me that he would notice and get so upset.
This occurred in early 80s.

(60,010 posts)The "Muh" is on a sharp rising note, it sounds like a question.
He does not do this to anyone else and only when he is looking for me in the house. The minute I answer, he trots into the room
and does the ankle rub thing.

(6,593 posts)She can't make an L sound so it comes out like an R, like "hair-row." It's plain as day, she'll say it maybe 10-20 times depending on how long I've been gone, & it's the only time she does it, when I walk in the door after being gone a week or more.
