Fostering Animals - A Call-Out From Texas

Animal rescue groups are making a plea for pet foster-homes, primarily dogs. They need to clear the animal shelters in Texas to have room for the rescued animals that need to be matched up with their owners.

My plan is to help foster a dog or two with another household and we can share the care.

100's - 1000's of animals need us. Pass it on...

Humane Societies are actively coordinating these efforts, plus rescue and animal care organizations. Some from my state are organizing to drive to Texas and pick up animals, but they must have foster homes to receive them.

Love for the critters

At the appropriate time?

I have fostered several pets, but the idea was alway to acclimate them to contact, especially children and other pets, when they were impressionable, and then return them to the adoption pool with "references". I have no experience with what sounds like long term "sitting".

The animals you would foster are looking for forever homes. They won't be the ones waiting to be matched up with their owners. They are clearing out the local shelters in Texas so they can receive the local rescues in Texas. The Texas shelter animals they are clearing out don't have a family and need committed fostering until they are adopted.

Check your local animal rescue organizations for a list of the animals, mostly dogs but cats too, that need fostering. I think organizations from all 50 states are heading to Texas to pick up animals, to make room for the new ones that were separated from their owners. My guess is, that many of those will end up needing adoption as well, for their owners have no way of caring for them because they themselves are homeless.

And, good news from my town. I have checked a couple of the local rescue organizations and ALL the Harvey dogs coming this weekend have foster homes waiting for them! People are stepping up, and fast! More will be coming, but we are off to a good start!

Love for the critters and the helpers!
