First hotel trip with pups...

Took them out of town last weekend and stayed in a hotel that allowed BIG dogs. I had looked at several places, even Airbnb, but it's not easy finding places that will allow two big dogs. Some even specified that certain breeds would not be allowed. But we found a place and actually got upgraded to a two bedroom suite once we got there. I thought it would be run down but the place was spotless and not a single thing gave any indication that it was a pet friendly room. Nothing chewed, no smells, etc. The pups did do a lot of sniffing but not overly so and they settled in very nicely. We heard one other dog the first night we were there but that was it. I had to stop mine from their usual rough housing because they can get loud.

Now, we're those weird people who travel with dogs!

La Quinta and Super 8 are often ok with big ones. In Westlake Ohio, Super 8 wants and extra $10/day.

with my large Border Collie and Aussie/Sheltie. Fortunately it was mostly for agility trials, and many venues had special arrangements with the local hotels/motels. Sometimes you can call and they will make an exception. One type we arrived around 1:00 a.m at our normal Red Roof. It had a water line break (it was very cold) and the motel was flooded out. They did nothing to help find another place. I contacted one near the agility venue that was listed as an option, but stated that it took only small dogs. I told them my situation, and they gave me an exception (which was fortunate since it was after 2:00 a.m. when we finally got in our room). We stayed there a few times since then as well. More expensive but a much nicer place.

I stayed at a Home2Suites once and there was a large boxer there but when I checked with them, they did not allow anything over 25 pounds. I guess you have to really check and it may differ even at the same chain. Or maybe people sneaked the big dog in!

Glad you were able to find a place!

Lots of places cater to dog owners now.
We stay at some great hotels and bed and breakfast type places all over California.

But OMG....my two medium sized dogs wear me out, when we stay in a hotel. I am constantly tending to them, feeding them, taking them out to potty, going through a routine when I leave so they are not anxious about a strange room or don't bark.

But I don't like to kennel them all the time. They travel in the car well. I think they are happier staying with me, but maybe not. Hard to tell. It might even stress them more.
