My elderly guy has left us.

I posted about him here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1161&pid=25235

He was literally at the vet's office this past Saturday for medication. Then he seemed to go down hill. Yesterday, he didn't want to eat anything at all regardless of what I tempted him with. Last night, it was like he lost control of his back legs. I had already called the vet's office this morning to make the necessary arrangements, but in true "Sylvester" fashion, he decided to go on his own terms.

Before his passing, I had the opportunity to hold him. I wrapped him snuggly in a blanket and towel and took him out into the backyard and let him see his favorite spots. I reminded him that he has many friends waiting at the Bridge for him, and reminded him how very much I loved him. Thanked him for choosing me to live with, and thanked him for being my old and most dear friend. We went back inside, and he was gone momentarily.

For sixteen years, he's been there every night when I got home from work. The house will NOT be the same tonight when I walk in the door...

If you have one (or more) of these magnificent creatures that you love and who have chosen YOU to live with, please take a moment and give them an extra hug today from me and from Sylvester.

People who love animals are without a doubt THE best of humanity.

Sixteen years is a very good run and yes, there's nothing worse than coming home to an empty house, especially the first time.

When the time is right, someone else will "choose you to live with"...what a great way to put it.

My condolences.....

We were just talking about that just now, that it just happens to be a day off work. If it wasn't, there would be issues because people don't get it.

Take care of yourself today.

No, most people simply DO NOT "get it". And in my opinion, that is THEIR loss.

him to the vet. Animals are unconditional love and your baby is sitting right next to you now, comforting you. Know that and listen well. You will hear them. Take care and know you are loved.

It's a long time to be with a pet and there will be an empty space for a while. We've been through it--cats who lived to the age of 17, 18 and 19.

Our current three are 1, 11 and almost 13.

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so --
'twas Heaven here with you.
