Related: About this forumI discovered something about cats. My cat likes to head butt me when she is affectionate.
I fist bump my parents when I leave their apartment. So I put the two together and now I fist bump my cat on her forehead. She loves it. I think it releases automatic endorphins in her once I've done it a few times because she next compulsively licks my hand once I am done. I started doing it to my dad's cat. She was a little confused at first but I think she liked it too. Try it and report back here.

(11,065 posts)I think generally cats like this. When I was growing up one of my friends had a cat that always stood up on his hind legs to head-boop whatever part of her he could reach. I think this was a special thing that the cat only did with her though.

(15,220 posts)We use this with the rescues to evidence their friendliness. What we do is to make an upside down fist and offer that to the cat. If the cat responds, we know we are communicating.

(18,219 posts)I went into the cat room for adoptions at the pet store. One cat jumped up on a railing that is face high, walked over to me, and head butted me right in the cheek.
End of discussion. Where do I sign?

(7,237 posts)Didn't think about the "fist bump" method. Hmmmm...
My Simon kitty will jump up on the sink counter in the bathroom and head-bonk me when I go in there first thing in the morning. It's his way of saying "Good Morning, Mom".

(33,688 posts)It's his way of saying he's happy to be around me, I think. He always purrs after doing it.
