Stray cat looks like my missing cat but I can't PM/contact the user PLEASE HELP

Last edited Mon Aug 3, 2015, 01:08 AM - Edit history (1)

Hi,

I have a cat that has been missing for years. As pet owners, I'm sure you can understand why I still keep looking. He was family.

I saw a post on an archive at this forum from someone who found a missing cat that looks exactly like mine. The markings, big paws, the fact this cat was described as a big cuddly teddybear too also sounds exactly like him.

To put my mind at ease I'd like to find out if it's him or not. However this forum won't allow me to PM the author 'as yet' until I post more. I've contacted site admin for help to contact this user, but no reply.

How much do you need to post until you can PM a user?

This is the post I'm talking about and the user "purr" is who I need to contact.

Update to this post (01/08/15) - here's a picture of my missing cat:

If the user "purr" on anyone stumbles on this post in the future with possible info about my missing cat please contact me anytime (even if this post is years old by then) at: dereksnest@gmail.com

Thank you for your help

I will drop them a note, on the odd chance they check in here. Maybe someone else can help more.

To add a photo, it must be uploaded to something like photobucket, or facebook even, then the photo link put into a post here.

Hi,

Thank you I really appreciate it. I can be reached at dereksnest@gmail.com or I'll check back here from time to time, but email would be best if you by slim chance hear back from them.

I had a feeling that they may have been offline for years. It's a long shot (as I'm not even sure where they are located) but even the lightness in colouring at the end of the tail is similar. And personalities sound so alike. The fact this cat they had was also a stray. But that photo of the cat they found sitting on the step, how that cat is looking at the camera even.. and the big paws is an uncanny resemblance to my missing ginger boy. It's worth at least just asking.

I managed to upload a picture of my missing cat also.

thanks again

It's a free website, no account needed. Then copy and paste the link in your post ( or a new post ).

Also, this might be a long shot, but contact the Administrators. They might have a way of contacting that poster, although I doubt they would. ( might be worth trying , never know ).

Also, since you think this is your cat, repost in GENERAL DISCUSSION, more people will see your post.

Good luck

thanks for the tips! Will do. I updated my original post too and added a picture of my missing ginger boy. I did try contact Admin of the site but no reply unfortunately. Will keep trying though.

I saw an auto-genetrated email from registering here after I posted, saying you have to reply to 50 threads before you can PM a user here. It appears they've been offline for years, but you never know..

thanks for your help

I'm in Australia so I know it's a HUGE long shot.. but there was a cat recently found in England that went missing in Australia! He also went missing in 2011 and those posts look like they're from 2006 but I'd still rather ask incase forum or something is just a date glitch. Still worth asking though to just to see.

Thanks for the well wishes! will definitely post any updates here if I hear anything

heres the url on that photo, they have a photobucket account that still is active so perhaps you can find them through photo bucket page.

Thanks so much I didn't even think to do that. Will definitely give it a shot!

I will post back here in the future if any news on him, thanks!

UPDATE to this reply: So I signed up to photo bucket their profile: http://s3.photobucket.com/user/ebolarox/profile/

I can't contact them anywhere.. :-/ I tried to see if there was a way to leave a comment but can't find anywhere. Most I can do I think is favourite the photo. These websites are proving difficult for me to contact them..

But thank you for the idea

Notice the strong M marking on forehead of your cat. Also notice the quality of the angle lighting and exposure in your photo. I think that the strong M mark was really there and would be a distinctive charter id for your cat. Next notice that the same forehead marking is absent in the photo of cat in the old DU posting. Also notice that the cat has a tipped ear and your cat's ear is intact. The mid ear tuft is very prominent in your cat but absent in the other cat. Then also Purr says the cat "doubles the size of my 15 lb Calico. He makes her look like a runt". So, its possible its a male cat weighing in excess of 25 lbs. That would be a very uncommonly large cat. Was your lost cat anything like that big? I've handled a lot cats and just once picked up a giant 31 lb male purebreed Maine Coon. Not a fat cat either at that weight. By the photo of the other cat it could be a very large red DMH cat but hard to be sure though.
