Related: About this forumi am pretty sure we're at quality of life preservation with formerly fat cat
nothing conclusive has shown up on the tests. the vet wants to run another one and do an x-ray, which i'll mcguyver together the money for, but my gut tells me all we can do at this point is keep her happy and comfortable.
i deny her nothing. she has a smorgasbord of food out for her. fresh water twice a day. box is scooped daily. treats on demand. i sleep on the couch more than half the night so i don't have to dislodge her from my lap. the self-heating pad mom sent should be in tomorrow. anything i eat gets shared with her if she wants (i've created a monster!).
husband bought another new food yesterday, swearing that all the cats he seen eat it are happy and healthy. dim one immediately turned her nose up, formerly fat cat gobbled it up. the real question is whether she eats it in a week or two, but he's taken charge. he says he merely tolerate them, but i know better. i've caught him whispering goodbye to her.
i am so angry at the universe for this. it's not fair.

(108,981 posts)When our dog was actively dying of cancer, our vet still insisted he was fine and that when he didn't eat he was "manipulating" us. It broke our hearts when we brought him to a different vet, got the diagnosis we most feared, and realized that he'd been deprived of the pain medication he'd needed for months. And we didn't have any time to make it up to him -- he needed to be put to sleep the next day.
Your kitty knows how much you love her. I hope that can be a small comfort.

(24,581 posts)Sometimes making our furbabies comfortable is all we can do, and it sounds like you and Mr. fizzgig are doing your best. Hold her tight while you can.

(18,219 posts)You are doing the right thing, and who cares how badly you spoil her. Do whatever you want to do and what makes her happy....and it sounds like you are.
Does the vet know what he is looking for with another test and x-rays? Is there any hope for her? When it gets to this point, I finally decide that there has to be good reason to put a furbaby through anything more. I am lucky to have a vet who agrees with this. He will tell me if it doesn't make sense to go through more and will just treat any symptoms as they come until it is apparent that the end is here. Good luck.
