Dog chained and abandoned behind Walmart chews off own paw to escape

A dog chained behind a Detroit Walmart store chewed off part of its foot in an escape attempt.
Melanie Wittner, founder and director of Hopeful Heart Rescue, said the beagle-pit bull mix was tied with a cable behind the store, reported The Detroit News.
She suspects the animal chewed off her left back paw after it became entangled and grew tighter.
“It was really cold out,” Wittner said. “She was stuck in one position. Imagine your cold feet are stuck to the ground and imagine something stuck around it.”
