Serious subject, funny visual. Kitty constipation.

For the past 3 weeks or so, my kitty has been constipated. She would go only every 2 or 3 days. Of course, I was concerned. She has been eating but no 'end result'. Gave her a dose of Petromalt, no real results. My sister, who has a cat with chronic constipation, told me her Vet recommended Miralax. OK. Off to CVS and bought it. Yesterday, I mixed 1/4 tsp with her food. She is a fussy eater but she seemed not to notice that I added something.
This AM, no results. It has been at least 3 days since she has moved her bowels and I was desperate. Poor kitty has been acting strangely. Crying and out of sorts.
Went on-line to see if I could find any suggestions. Found some great advice.

OK, how do you administer a suppository to a cat? With difficulty.
I pared down the suppository to about 1/2 of an inch by 1/4 inch, grabbed the poor cat, held her backward and made an attempt to insert the thing into her rectum.
Wow, my mild mannered cat did not like this at all. Plus, I had to hold her (finger on but) for a short time to make sure she did not expel this thing. Meanwhile, kitty is fighting me like mad. Don't blame her.
When I finally let her go, she ran like the devil to the second floor to hide. About 5 minutes later, down she came at a quick run to the litter box. Success!!
I will keep monitoring the progress and hope she gets back to normal. I cannot afford a big Vet bill now.

Took kitty to Vet this AM. She still had not produced much and I wanted to make sure she was OK and that what is happening was not the beginning of a bad situation.
First. No more dry food. As her regular wet food,I have been feeding her Fancy Feast Elegant Medley's shredded chicken with garden herbs. She is a fussy eater and this is all she will eat of wet food. Have also been giving her 'treats'-Purina Complete. There is nothing wrong with the Purina except that the Vet feels my kitty should not have dry food. She was checked out, no back up in her bowels. They also checked out Anal glands. No problem there.
She has some gum problems and had an antibiotic shot. Seems she had gingivitis and may face trouble in the future. Got an antibiotic shot to help inflammation. This had nothing to do with the constipation.
My kitty will be in Miralax, possibly for the rest of her life. No more Petromalt, she has gone beyond that. It is a good product but not enough for this situation. If we don't see any more regular BM'S in the next two weeks, she will go back to the vet for further evaluation.
I paid for her visit but...Wow, $58.84 for just the shot of Convenia(antibiotic), never mind the rest of the visit. Wish I had Medicare for kitties!
We all care so much for our pets and I know you would do the same for your kitty or dog. Better to catch things now than face a worse situation later. Thanks for your good thoughts.
Another edit, forgot to add: Vet was not happy with the suppository that I tried. Some of them contain chemicals that are harmful to animals.

I have had good luck using Vaseline, for constipation and hair balls. Just a dab on the top of the paw will be licked off in a cleaning. It can be given daily. And that is not as hard to administer as a suppository.......
