Matriarch dog, pointer-dalmatian mix, abandoned at a truck stop by some scummy breeder, adopted by people who thought she was was pretty but didn't understand dogs, so they sent her back. This dog is seriously odd. A decade we've had her and only recently has she become something close to "normal," but with a deeply twisted sense of dog humor.
Dog two. Dingo. Feral near a year. Disowned by original "breeder." He left town for another state. Worse, she is second most intelligent dog I've ever met, a wild thing of the worst sort. My wife, adopter of unadoptable dogs is her goddess. Anyone else, dingo is suspicious.
Dog three. A blue-eyed husky who was kept in a yard on a chain for years because his owners "couldn't control him." Duh. He's a husky, it's got to be a partnership with huskies. He's a big teddy bear and loves people in spite of his lonely times. But he still pees on the vacuum cleaner. And he's dingo's best friend. There's no sort of dog trouble those two can't find. They eat rats and garbage. Together they challenge raccoons, opossums, coyotes, bobcats, skunks, Jehovah's Witnesses. and pesticide sales people. Not so good. These two dogs could easily survive any human apocalypse.

(38,326 posts)Our worst dog ever was a Catahoula. Second, a Blue Lacy. The Blue Lacy caught a pig for me. Unfortunately all I had at the time was a rake.

Smartest dog I ever knew was an Australian Shepherd mix. She once captured and held a UPS man by jumping into his truck and refusing him entry. Bad dog stories.
But this dog also brought my sister's parakeet back alive after it had escaped, a day later, very gently held within her mouth.
It's rare I'll question a good dog's judgment. Humans and dogs go way back... There are bad dogs too, just as there are bad people, but not so many percentage wise.
