I adopted these two kittens from the local shelter today for my husband (and the rest of us here too -- enough of this awful horrid grief!). He has been so very sad lately. I took him with me and he wanted both of them. He frowns no more today.
As for me, I'm as happy as can be and lady cat Jules the main ONE around here is getting used to these two little ones. She's liking them I think keeping a very close eye on these two "scallywags" as my husband calls them!
They are two males, brothers about 3 mos. old. Breed = good old American short hair.
Names:
Still yet to be determined!
Had to share w/my friends here at the Pets Group!

(6,151 posts)Many of my dogs have been rescues, but going to a shelter and not being able to take all the animals home is kind of hard on me. Guess I'm lucky now that I don't have a car and the nearest shelter is 60 miles away. I can't walk that far.
I'll never get over the people who set up the 300-mile relay to bring me Brigid. Some people really are wonderful.
Again, I'm very glad that you shared the new additions to your family. Those furkids really won the lottery!

(11,065 posts)I'm convinced the best and maybe the only way to get over the terrible grief of losing a pet is to get another one.
May you have many many happy years with your new fur babies!

(20,878 posts)We couldn't think of adopting after those two losses back to back of Old Kitty and Flame.
My husband has been horribly depressed as his oldest brother that ran the family farm in Ireland passed away recently and he found out his other one here in the USA has been DX'd with cancer too.
So, he's been really sad and crying and the like and I saw these two on the internet (shelter is a 5 min. drive from where I live) and he was *interested* so we went to just "have a look" ...
There were seven in this litter. One was black, one was black and white, and these two and not sure what the other 3 were like.
Its been quiet all night and I put a freshly washed cat bed down on the floor in the other room for them and that is where they are now I think, still sleeping after their adoption. They were so excited and happy I cannot tell you.
My husband came up with the names Foggy & Sunshine.
We'll see about the names ... may opt to change them.
Luckily, Jules is not upset at all. Life is normal again for her. A new little pack for her!
Your right, good thing and it sure knocks that awful ugly grief out of this house fast!

(11,065 posts)I remember the sad story of Old Kitty and Flame and how broken up you were. And to have lost them one after the other like that had to have made it so much worse.
I'm so happy you decided to "just have a look" and got two new wonderful kitties to fill your hearts with love and joy again.
Funny how "just having a look" always seems to equal coming home with at least one furry bundle of joy! LOL! That's how we got our family dog when I was a kid.

He knew too I'm sure as to why else would I be looking for a cat carrier to put in the car ("just in case" ...) ? hehehee

(9,275 posts)After our Lucy died 2 years ago we were down to 2 cats and DH said that's plenty. Then I got an email from the local rescue group and made the mistake of clicking on the link to "available for adoption"...there was a litter of long-haired orange-and-white babies. We brought one of them home that weekend.

(9,275 posts)Years ago my beloved uncle died of a heart attack at 52. His wife, Aunt M, was totally devastated by grief and to make matters worse, she did not work so she had all day to brood. Her daughter (my cousin) got her a Min. Schnauzer puppy. They'd never had pets before. Suddenly Aunt M had a reason to live and someone that needed her. She and the puppy formed a wonderful bond and Aunt M slowly rejoined the world with the help of her furry friend. I'm sure they're together now at the Bridge.

(15,224 posts)First for adopting from a shelter, and second, for keeping the brothers together. May your family (human and furries) have many, many happy years together.

(16,993 posts)Love that you didn't split them up, now they'll have each other for company every day. May both of them live long and happy lives, and bring your family a lot of joy.
They seem to be settling in just fine!

(20,878 posts)They are glad too! They have a wresting competition going on 24/7 it seems and then there are these silly games in the bathroom too!
As for the other cat, Ms. Jules, well she's liking them a lot and is watching them and if she hears one of them cry, she rushes to see what is wrong.
I'm keeping them in a separate room at night as to not bother her and they seem to be very happy with their new home!
They sure are growing fast (downing about 3 cans of food a day, stealing food from Ms. Jules and Ms. Jules stealing Kitten Chow from them ...).
On and on it goes. I realize they aren't this way for too long so we are enjoying them a lot!
As for my husband, he's really happy with them and he said he's glad we have them and he said he doesn't have time to think/worry about all of the problems.
Thank god for our little friends!
