Need some help for my cat(Updated)

Last edited Wed Jul 24, 2013, 05:40 PM - Edit history (1)

I just moved to Texas a couple weeks ago so I guess this would be directed especially for people in the Houston Tomball area. My cat is really sick he hasn't been able to use the bathroom and he's meowing really loudly in pain while in the box and off. I'm taking care of my father who is disabled from a stroke. I don't have any money to take my cat to the vet until the 2nd of August and I can't seem to find any vets willing to work with me. If anyone has and advice for places to try or even something I might be able to give the cat to help him it would be greatly appreciated. (update I managed to find a vet willing to work with me)

and it's extremely serious. Do you have an emergency vet service in your area? Can you just bring him in and explain the problem with the cat right there? I can't imagine any vet turning away a cat with that ailment because it's very serious and needs to be treated NOW. I wish I had some better advice - good luck.

I did something like that once myself. I was cat sitting for a neighbor and the cat started showing those symptoms, which I knew needed immediate treatment. I called the vet and explained to the snotty receptionist what was going on and she just said in a very rude way, "we don't take patients on Saturdays" (even though they were open). So I bundled up the cat, drove to the vet's office, plunked the cat on the counter and told the snotty receptionist, "This cat is very sick and he needs to be seen NOW." And I said I wouldn't leave until a vet looked at him. So a vet came out, took the cat, told me it was a good thing I brought him in when I did, treated him, and in a few days he was fine.

You might try something desperate like that.

But I bet if you showed up with the cat and begged for help with a promise to pay on August 2, they wouldn't send you away.

in the 'poop department.
We all have kitty problems, I will shortly be positing about mine. There is a product called 'Petromalt' that will be a great help if your kitty is constipated. My kitty is much better since I used this product.

Anything beyond this is out of my level. Good luck. We love these furry beasts but there are times we don't know what to do and the $$ situation is a factor.

I wish you and your kitty the best.

I am agreeing with the others that this is probably a urinary track blockage which really has to be treated. Please let us know how things go.

And some great vets along the way too.

The problem with urinary blockage in cats is PH levels and the amount of ash in the food. Wet food isn't a good solution since their teeth go very quickly and that causes more issues. Many of the urinary health dry foods will solve the problem, and buying expensive vet brands is no guarantee that they are better than Purina or Friskies products. And yes, people will scream these brands suck.

Ahem

I have fed my cats Purina indoor for nearly 20 years, regular Purina before it came out and a couple with urinary issues too, and my oldest kitteh, Coco, with sparkling white teeth is over 16 years old now. With most of my cats living between 15-20 years over the past 30 years eating Purina cat food, that would be my recommendation.

I hope this helped.

Are you referring to Purina dry food?

When I give my kitten canned (wet) food, she seems to breathe it into her nose while she eats it. She goes into desperate fits of sneezing during or after she eats.

I would like to give her a good, high quality dry food until she is a little older and larger.

I am concerned that dry food has carbs and that is not good for a cat. But she doesn't seem to be able to eat wet canned food without somehow breathing some of it in.

I have spaced out the wet food in little dabs on a large plate, so that she doesn't really have to get her nose in the food. That works well most of the time, but the rest of the time, she seems to breath the food into her nose and she goes into fits of sneezing.

My cats-only vet is very opposed to dry food and I concur. However, I don't see any other solution to this problem. I have another appointment with the vet tomorrow, but dry food, at least for a while seems like the only good solution.
