My 17-y/o son's at a birthday party with a friend tonight


and all I can think is, thank goodness he's not doing any (not even a fraction, as far as I know) of the shit I did at his age. He hugs me and tells me he loves me every day.

Compared to me at that age, he's been beyond expectations.

Background: Single father for many years, made a point to respect (not belittle) my son, always made a point to tell him I loved him and wasn't judgemental. It took time for some stuff to sink in, but I see it all coming together now.
