Got Pallets? Hate weeding?

Alright friends: I had to dig to find this group, and since I have not been here before I may be carrying coals to Newcastle with this idea. But I liked it, and I hope you will too.

Got Pallets? Hate weeding? Don't feel like turning up a bunch of grass? Use a pallet as
a garden bed - staple garden cloth on the backside of the pallet fill with dirt and start growing!

I absolutely love this idea.....but I would, I am one of the lazy gardeners here. In fact, I am getting so lazy that I have almost decided to give it all up and hit farmers' markets instead.

But this sounds so easy!

Lettuces, annual herbs, yes. But most veggies have deeper root systems. Still, you could put down boards on a raised bed and it would help discourage weeds until the plants developed larger leaves, shading the ground and discouraging weeds.

what I thought is that the roots make their way through the fabric into the ground below, which I had intended to spade up and fertilize.
Guess not ?!?

a few high would work for veggies? I liked the idea for lettuce and herbs as soon as I saw it, but didn't think as much about using it for veggies like tomatoes and peppers. But I wonder if a few pallets stacked together would do it.
