Anyone familiar with Johnny's Select Seeds?

I was reading at one website discussing pelletized seeds and there was a link to where one could order a free catalog from the company. I've never heard of this seed company before but thought that since the catalog was free, I had nothing to lose so I requested one.

Came in over a week ago and I'm impressed by the quality of the catalog. Made with glossy paper and it contains helpful info. Prices per packet are higher then what I'd pay at the local hardware store and you have to pay for shipping unless the order is over $200 which is a lot higher minimum then other seed companies I'm familiar with.

Just wondering if anyone here is familiar with the company and what your opinion is?

i get a lot of stuff from seed savers, but johnny's is my go to for the fancy, colorful plants that i lean to. always something unusual.

they started out with the food and enhancers and then went to seeds. Pelletized seeds seem weird to me. Let me know how it goes. I think it's for the seed size so you can plant it more easily.

It is technically for seeding equipment on a farm, but my fingers don't always cooperate these days. It makes seed like carrot into a 1mm ball that you can actually grab and sow without needing to do thinning later. You get 1 carrot per hole at 99% germination.

I've been getting seeds from them for decades. I always get good germination and good quality vegetables. The slightly higher price is worth it to me.

and I know they're a good company from what other gardeners have told me, but I'm always able to get what I want without paying their exorbitant prices. I think their shipping is ridiculous.

I always look for options and can almost always find one.

While slightly higher priced than competitors, they offer varieties that are well suited to New England.

I used to get potatoes from them, but after 2020 cancellations, I either get those local or from another supplier.

They, along with Victory, Southern Exposure and Seed Savers Exchange, are my go - to companies.
