I rarely cook at home for just myself, so I get my cooking "fix" here at work or with the family on weekends.

(31,517 posts)Some of them are in a survivalist mode right now, storing food away and what not. I've told them that this is my insurance that if they have to head for the woods, someone will come by my house first to get me so I can cook for them.

(12,253 posts)What are they afraid of, I wonder? You're a good soul, AG, and home cooking will keep you alive if it comes down to it.

(31,517 posts)I never had time to fix that kind of breakfast in the mornings, so they thought they were really living if we had it for supper.

(1,706 posts)corn, beans (pinto) and winter squash (peeled, chopped butternut) tossed in the pot after sauteing onion, garlic and jalapeno. Tomatoes and some water for liquid, cumin and oregano for seasoning. It's cool and rainy here tonight, so it fits the weather.
It's 3 sisters from Native American mythology I guess - the three were planted together and benefited each other - corn stalk serving as poles for the beans to climb; beans fixing nitrogen in the soil to help the corn grow.
yellerpup
(12,253 posts)Isn't it amazing that the Old Ones knew about the nitrogen-fixing qualities of these plants? That and not marrying back into your clan. I am Anigotegewi (Wild Potato Clan). Welcome to C&B! I haven't seen you here before, so at least you're new to me.

(12,253 posts)I got a two shots of cortisone near my big toe joint. (OW!!!--but fine now) I have rehearsals and a staged reading in Manhattan next week and I'm accustomed to walking everywhere. Luckily, the producer said he had no problem upping my carfare to include taxis both ways! How rare! How lovely!

(12,253 posts)I broke a bone in my foot a few weeks ago and didn't know it until I saw the x-rays, but today I am mobile at long last. I made a vegetable soup with a little chicken, chickpeas, and kale. It was very satisfying, hearty and packed with vitamins. Nice to be off take-out Chinese!

(50,130 posts)How did you injure it? And what kind of symptoms were you having?
I'm asking because I'm wondering if I have done the same thing to my foot. I tripped about ten days ago when taking the doggie outside at night when there was no moon. Fell right over some boxes and bricks. Since then my metatarsal area has been swelling after I walk the usual half-mile or more. Guess I'll have to mosey to the M.D. to see if there's a stress fracture or something.
yellerpup
(12,253 posts)and thought I would get over it. That was in March, and instead of getting better it got worse. Pain and swelling were the symptoms and when I went for x-rays, the x-ray tech kept running back into the room saying: "How many times have you broken this foot? Have you been in a boot, a splint, a cast before?" He couldn't believe it when I said, 'never.' This is what comes from being without health care for 25 years. When you can't afford to go to the ER or see a doctor, etc., you ice it and get over it the best you can. You should have your ankle checked out so it will heal back in the right way. These type of injuries come back to haunt you.

(9,791 posts)I still have a dozen ravioli in the freezer after boiling up the ten of them I did today. I had some sausage in the freezer that needed to be used soon so I fried up a batch, made some sauce and ravs and sausage were supper. I like to have easy and quick stuff on a busy day.
