It's Mr. Pup's birthday. I made him a delicious chorizo omelet this morning with two flour tortillas and onion-y hash browns with a sectioned half-grapefruit and coffee. Tonight the chef at Niji will feed us both and there is a free carafe of hot sake that comes with the meal.

Just returned. Had a lovely evening and ran into friends at Niji and ran into friends. Nice.

Next day....the free sake was responsible for this post.

which is basically a warm bean puree, flavored with garlic and lemon, among other things. The recipe I'm using is from Sudan, and is from Extending the Table, A World Community Cookbook (which is the cookbook I use for most of the vegetarian dishes I cook). Well, there was also a recipe on the bean can, so it's kind of a mash-up of the two sources.

We were shopping in a fledgling Indian grocery store yesterday, and I didn't need anything but wanted to do my bit to support the store. So I bought two cans of fava beans. We've had ful in an Ethiopian restaurant but that was 10+ years ago. So we'll see how it goes over with the two teen boys.

Here is a link to the the above-mentioned cookbook: http://www.amazon.com/Extending-Table-World-Community-Cookbook/dp/0836192648/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1334266627&sr=1-1

for one, on a whole wheat pita.

Lots of green, red, and jalapeno peppers, onion, garlic, fresh tomatoes and some basil leaves I just pinched off. Topped with a little skim milk mozzarella and anchovies.

It's smelling good!
