Hello, I've seen so many online examples of people poaching eggs using plastic wrap. It looks like the egg stays intact and contains the mess. Is there a special kind of plastic wrap to use? I'm afraid of simply using a cling wrap and melting it in my pot! Any suggestions? Thank you!

(17,989 posts)If you want to poach, put a tiny bit of vinegar in your water and swirl, drop eggs in.
There may need a new plastic I am not aware of.

(919 posts)I never thought of the silicone holders. I'll try those. I've also tried the vinegar trick, but it didn't work for me. Thanks, everyone!

(36,827 posts)I crack the egg into a custard dish. It makes it easier to drop into the water.
After the water comes to a boil, make a whirlpool with a spoon. Gently but all at once drop the egg into the center of the pan. The swirling water will keep the egg intact. Start a timer for 3 minutes as soon as the egg goes in.
If you must use plastic wrap, line a custard dish with a square piece of plastic wrap. Spray center with cooking spray. Drop an egg in and bring all the corners of the wrap together. Twist to form a seal around the egg and tie tightly with a bread bag tie or rubber band.
Boiling water will never get hotter than 212F and thats not nearly hot enough to melt plastic wrap.
